Reddit VS Old GD, when talking about Team communication and individual player responsibility.

First off, this is posted from an alternate account. After using my initial one to kinda "experiment" with how the two communities reacted, I made this one to sum it all up.

From the start, two types of posts were made about team communication.

Posts such as:

Not alt-tabbing/playing hearthstone when you are in ranked champ select. And not alt-tabbing till 30 seconds to buy your items and leave spawn (leaving your jungle vulnerable to invades)

Respecting ban requests and player abilities. Learning to swap and accept that people have weaknesses and that in ranked, we should accommodate accordingly

In addition, important issues like Pick Vs Call, where I brought up how it was in fact communication>all and that "Pick > Call" was reserved for a last resort solution if communication can, in no way, be established

The 2 forms included 1 ranty, and 1 with(imo) well thought out reasons, scenarios and views from both sides.

I posted slightly changed copies of each on both GD (in the past till it closed, and a little in new GD) and Reddit. Words were shifted here and there, but the attitude and point of my posts were the same.

The results were pretty consistent for each forum and were almost opposites of each other.

Here were the results of the two communities

Old GD responded:

With similar well thought out posts. They could relate to my past experiences, whether it was ranty or well thought out. While some said there was nothing they could do and that I should just make the best of it in polite manners, others agreed on the importance of team communication and even suggested solutions.

When I brought up the ban phase/swap phase issue, GD also responded with well thought out posts. They knew the importance of communicating and making up for a team-mate's mistake, so that the team was performing at max efficiency, and that no one was uncomfortable in their positions (which results in them holding the team back)

**Most importantly when I brought up the issue of Communication >Pick and Call. ** GD responded pretty well too. The post that Riot made about their stance on the Champ select issue was well understood, and the majority of the GD community knew that communication was the #1 priority in champ select, while Pick>Call was in fact the last resort.

Heres the post for reference http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=3449932

While there were a few rude posters and trolls (some downright nasty and almost evil sounding), the vast majority gave well thought out responses and respected each others views.

Also, on a side note, theory crafting threads were also treated well for the most part.

If someone said that this combination of items/champs was great and that they thought it would become meta, the post was responded to with well thought out scenarios. Both posts to support and counter the arguments were found in those posts.

So, heres Reddit's turn. I posted similar/slightly altered versions of my post to Reddit along side GD.

And to sum up the majority (definitely not all) of Reddits response:

"STFU I do what I like"

In both ranty and well thought out posts, the vast majority of commenters were rude to me, and closed minded. They pretty much said that every point I brought up about team communication was just me being a baby, and that I should be the one picking up for the higher pick's. The ending statement for most of their arguements were that "You are just bronze"

In addition, they also said that if a person just instalocks or refuses to communicate, I have no right to tell the person otherwise, even if that instalock was at the cost of the team

Reddit posters in my team communication threads (both ranty and well though out) sounded bitter.

Often telling me I was being too stupid or naive, and that its soloqueue so we shouldn't be looking out for each other or improving ourselves.

Instead of suggesting improvements, the vast majority just told me to metaphorically, grab what I can and GTFO before shit hits the fan in soloqueue games

As for the post about Pick VS Call, a large amount of people either didn't read the Riot post clearly, or tried to lie to me

In order to justify their Pick VS Call, they quoted incomplete segments of the Riot post, highlighting only the portions of the post that supported their points (such as "we've ultimately decided to endorse Pick Order over Call Order as an underlying system.")

And they purposely (or just didn't know) left out the other important portions of the post that represented what Riot really felt about the Champ select issue

(Such as "Pick Order is meant to be a last resort when settling discussions - this is why we are endorsing it and not mandating it. Communication and collaboration are still the most important things when it comes to playing ranked games, and we hope players will continue to uphold the Summoner's Code in all of their matches.")

Overall, reading responses to my Team communication posts in Reddit left me somewhat bitter and negative. Like I was just forced to watch an old women get robbed and there was nothing I could do about it because the city didn't give a shit.

However, like GD, Riot had exceptions to these posts. Just like how GD had a few really bad people, there were some (albeit only a few) people on reddit that posted great responses to my threads.

Regardless of them agreeing or disagreeing, their posts were well thought out, showed respect, and never argued in a way that caused negativity. Those were some great people and Reddit really needs more of them.

Also, on a side note: Unlike GD, a large majority of Reddit seems closed minded to new ideas on whats going to be good. Downvoting new ideas and concepts, most without an explanation to why they disagreed and straight up called the poster stupid

Yet as soon as the poster was proven right, the community, who was calling the poster dumb just a few days-months ago, is now hailing him as a prophet and downvoting the same people they agreed with a while back, calling them idiots.

Btw, this didn't apply to posts like "ERMERGURD ____ IS OP NERF PLS" Both communities responded negatively to that. I'm talking about posts that were well thought out

Final parting note** **Most of the comparison posts were done with Old GD and Reddit, not new GD.
