Report weighting?

I don't play a lot of pvp, mostly co-op for first win of the day. Over the years, there have been spans of time where there are bots. I'm sure lots of people are aware of them. I tend to report them out of habit (currently using the Cheating / Unapproved Programs checkbox). These aren't just new people having bad games; these are the ones with names like xcJwefnnBrad who go 0/20/2 every game, don't chat, cast 2-3 spells per game, etc.

The thing is, I have never gotten a popup for "person you reported has been punished". I know that Riot saves botting and similar third party program bans for waves as a general security practice. But in the back of my head, all I can think is "I have reported literally hundreds of accounts and not gotten any feedback. My report value is probably at zero."

How valid is my worry? Should I just stop reporting bots anyway (since they should presumably be easy to catch when ban waves hit anyway)? Will my report value ever recover? I've seen occasional posts from Riot about banning botters. But I don't remember seeing anything from them on this issue.

Bans for bots aren't automated/handled by the Instant Feedback System, so currently you can't be given a notification for your report resulting in one being punished. They are interested in or already have plans for this, though.

As long as you feel your reports are being used appropriately according to Riot's guidelines, don't worry about losing report value, just keep reporting behavior that violates the Summoner's Code and Terms of Use.

if it's a valid report, it shouldn't effect your report weight.

they currently only give you notifications on unsportsmanlike behavior and verbal harassment. So you won't get any notification for 3rd party reports.

On top of that, you'll only get the notification if the game you reported them was the one that got them banned. So if they got banned the next game, you'll never know.

Riot is aware that people ** feel** their reports aren't doing anything, they may get to fix the system's visibility in time, but for now they have their eyes set on finishing the new client, and then making the new honor system.

Like Dynikus has said, if it's a valid report, it won't decrease the "validity" of your report. People only start to get the reputation of being a less reputable reporter when they are submitting a ton of overly enthusiastic reports, which is probably something a bit easier detected by the Instant Feedback System than those reports which are manually reviewed, since I would assume not all manual reviews are done by the same individual.

Something else to keep in mind, for those reports that might not be for botting, any reports that are handled by the IFS only send the pop-up punishment alert to the last person who submits a report. For example, if ten players report Player X for hate speech, only Player 10 will see the pop-up saying someone they recently reported has been punished. So just because you haven't seen the pop-up doesn't mean that Riot hasn't been punishing players for breaking the rules, and it doesn't mean that your reports are not credible.

Report weighting is a lie.
