Is banning unfair?

People can be perma banned on their 4th offense. Of course, 4 is a lot but consider this from a riot employee about what can be considered an offense.

"Talking about toxicity, I would like to clarify what it stands for, because it's not based only on swearing or curse words or on the zero tolerance policy that we have which includes: racism, homophobia. wishing harm on others, etc, it also means: early GG's, spamming, whining, sarcastic congratulations or sarcasm in general, calling for reports and harassment.

So basically, any distractions with a negative attitude, both your teammates and enemies, will be punished. Rather than flaming, focus on aiding. Rather than complaining, focus on helping others and improve your gameplay in case you cannot reach your teammates. Just focus on the game."

Sarcasm is toxic, yet they say competetive bsing is fine in loading screens. Surely, that's inconsistency and mixed messages.

Also, why is this stuff not commonly accessible in game, how would I know that asking for multiple reports is wrong. It's done so often and when someone says they'll rape my dead mother, shouldn't I want them reported?

Seems to me they're a bit too strict. You don't know how many warnings you have and then BAM! perma banned when someone said they was gonna rape your mother ingame and you get angry.

It's as if we're too sensitive to be humans. Why can't people be %%%%s sometimes. What if I've had an awful day and the comment got to me, £1000s lost cause of shitty rules.

Overall Riot, I think you're unfair.

You don't get permaban a from having one awful day. It's from a continuous trend of negative behavior without reform.

It's always seemed pretty fair to me.

League, and the MOBA genre, is different from other kinds of games in that you're forced into a match with four random people against five random people, and expected to function as a team. The pace of a match is unforgivingly fast, and the penalty for a split-second distraction can be devastating. League as a competitive game only functions well when entire teams are focused on the match, not on bullshit going down in chat. This reasonably gives Riot incentive to strictly police the chat function. It's still a necessity, for strategic purposes, but the bar for mis-use of chat is and should be quite high.

It's virtually impossible to get permabanned for behavior without warning. I don't think I've ever seen an account's first behavioral ban be anything worse than a 14-day ban. And shit, it's 2018, we as human beings should know that there are rules for interaction with other people online, just as there are in-person. This isn't the early days of Everquest or Runescape, where the very concept of online multiplayer was new and unexplored for many.

You just answered your own question. You get 3 warnings then BAM! Perma, and you do have every right to report people for saying toxic things like that to you, but that doesn't mean you should normalize it by also doing it.

Sarcasm is toxic, yet they say competetive bsing is fine in loading screens. Surely, that's inconsistency and mixed messages.

I don't think sarcasm quote is as bad as people make it out to be. There is a difference in my opinion between one sarcastic comment "Oh yea dragon was a REALLY good idea lol" and being a snide rudester and near spamming the chat with snarky petty garbage.

I feel like people get confused with riot saying competitive banter is alright. "Ha! We're totally gonna win this." is a lot different from "get rekt nerd. you suck lol"

I don't really agree with Riot on that. It would be great if people could be nicer to each other in league but that's not how people are, and I've never seen someone get banned for saying "rekt loser." though. Maybe if they said it 2000 times in one game sure, but I think even league realizes that everyone does it.

In the end the best way to stop getting banned for toxic IMO is /muteall and not type.

The part where it says "both your teammates and enemies, will be punished" kind of makes it fair. As long as the rules apply to everyone, yes it is fair. And your logic about were too sensitive to be humans just seems backwards. It was your sensitivity that made you angry. An anonymous stranger online insulted you and you got upset? Come on. You gotta have thick skin in this game, or at least utilize the mute button.

You're playing a private game on a private service - for free.

Riot Games owes you nothing. Play by their rules or get out. AKA learn how to be an adult and face consequences for your actions.

I'd say its pretty unfair considering that the rules are not clearly defined and an automated system is banning people.

If you are in a restaurant and a guy starts shouting stuff about your mother and you start a yelling fight, you both will get kicked out. But mom Riot he started it. That didnt even work back in kindergarden.

Pro Tip: If you are having a bad day, don't play League... especially if you are prone to outbursts of bad words. It's easier to go on tilt when you're already in a bad mood. League can be relaxing and fun, yes, but to some people it can ruin a day by itself let alone if you are already in a pissy mood. If you want to enjoy league in a bad mood, spectate one of your friends or watch a streamer.

The thing is, if all you do is type in chat "report this guy" you're not going to get banned. Even if you type it 2-3 times. But if you type it 5 times, and you flame him back for the rest of the match, then yes, you are at risk of being punished yourself. Because at that point, you aren't just asking for him to be held accountable to the rules. You are breaking the rules with him by flaming back. It doesn't matter who started it, Riot will finish it.

You just have to decide what matters more to you... the amount of money you spent on your account (which includes all the time you had to work to earn that money)... or getting the last word in against some little pissant who probably isn't going to give two shits about what you have to say, and might even have a better comeback than you anyway.
