A WAY more effective alternative to Tribunal/reports/bans, and maybe even a solution to "ELO Hell"

  • Let us add specific players to a personal blacklist.
  • Do not let the matchmaking system put us on the same team as players we have blacklisted.
  • The blacklist should only affect who you team with, not who you play against.

That's it. That's all.

[zombie-brand-mindblown] B-but, why?

Think about it; why do you even report someone? You want them banned, or otherwise punished: You report people you don't want to play with.

Does the current system work in that regard? Nope. You can and do matched up with undesirables multiple times in a row. A more direct way to say "I don't ever want to team with this guy/gal" is needed.

[slayer-jinx-unamused] o-okay... so this will abate your personal grievances, but how will this improve the community?

If someone is constantly ruining games and ticking people off, they will end up in a lot of blacklists. Through their own behavior, they'll have effectively removed themselves from the matchmaking pool, because no one wants to be matched with them.

No high-and-mighty Tribunal judgement needed; this is simply how a society works: if you act like an ass to everyone, no one wants to do anything with you.

Also, unlike waiting for the Tribunal to ban someone, a blacklist-based system would be effective immediately.

[zombie-nunu-tears] Won't this eventually reduce the matchmaking pool to zero? And isn't this a bit harsh on the blacklisted players?

Riot could limit blacklists to 10 players, and players should be given a chance to get themselves out of blacklists, of course!

When someone get blacklisted, they should get something like “A player from your last match has chosen to never be in a team with you. This may result in longer queue times. Please improve your behavior and communication to avoid further blacklisting.”

Everyone would be able see how many players have blacklisted them.

if a player that you've blacklisted has been getting Honored often, you might see “A player in your blacklist has improved their behavior. Would you like to be queued with them again?”

So again, similar to Real Life, people have to put in effort to be welcomed back into the communities they've been excluded from. No Tribunal needed, no automated algorithms, just the players themselves deciding and choosing the quality of their matchmaking experience.

[slayer-pantheon-thumbs] I'm sure someone will oppose this proposal, if only to keep things the way they are, but hey.

TL;DR: Instead of reports, implement blacklists.

Won't happen, way too easy to abuse.

Never gonna happen. There are like 30-40 players in same time playing in challenger. They would never give anyone power to affect matchmaking in any way. Also whats to say that your report wasnt fake, that u just blacklister/reported person for playing bad that game? Ye sure, it would help with trolls, but people most commonly report others for having negative score, for not ganking, for picking champ they dont like ,for losing lane, for not warding , for missing smite , for not participating in suicidal team fight, for "kill stealing", for bad CS, for not giving them blue buff, for taxing them as jungler, supports for taking some CS, ADCs for dying in team fight, people for missing skillshots, people for hitting wrong targets with skillshots (blitz pulling amumu etc).

How it should work:

"I didn't enjoy playing with this toxic player, so I will blacklist them so I never have to play with them again."

What will actually happen:

"This guy did poorly, obviously trolling, reported and blacklisted, jesus christ, my queues are taking forever, good job Riot."

It's a nice try but a bad idea none the less. It's just not viable. In theory if almost everyone was a nice decent person it could possibly work. Here is the problem though. People tilt, people have bad games, people rage once in a while. So say you have been playing for 3 years and NEVER DID ANYTHING TO MAKE ANYONE MAD EVER! Then one day you snap, you just flip out from all of that bent up rage. Now because you were blacklisted it means you could potentially get thrown into matches with other trolls even easier. Trolls can also use it to make you play with worse people. Trolls on smuf accounts won't care about increased wait times if they can just ruin another persons day again. They will black list you putting you in a lower category according to how you want this to work. Like I said, your idea is nice in theory but in all reality it would be an utter failure.
