There will always be toxic players in video games, but doesn't it feel like it's getting worse?

Do people remember a few seasons back, you would occasionally get a message telling you that you'd been reported? I would rather get a message saying I've been reported (even though I did absolutely nothing) because my enemies were mad I killed them on an assassin, than not getting any at all. I was never worried because I wasn't toxic, but at least I knew the system was DOING SOMETHING.

Game is getting worse, so of course the players get even more shit to get angry about.

I agree. Honestly, I feel like it's gotten worse the more companies try and police what people can say. Instead of relieving the toxicity, people are becoming more belligerent and more easily offended. Instead of a few off comments, people are often having full blown meltdowns in the chat.

Toxicity is due to the ignorant and unskillful holding the majority alongside an anti-skill "why try" mentality which caters towards the newest and weakest players. They cant even balance in game occurrences why would they ever create a decent social environment. Just another company trying to make money off new souls. ggez. Give a simple yet scientific IQ test to play ranked we`d have far less problems. Though it seems few understand psychology and assume such things to be mean.

Anything you try to regulate tends to get worse. Look at the opioid epidemic. People have done nothing but crack down on it, and it does nothing but get worse. If they stopped banning for "toxic" and put personal responsibility on players to use mute buttons, i think things would get better.

If I were to count the ingame feeling, I would say the crazy rage of "mid or feed" has drastically gone down.

The flaming in general I feel has reduced, but i feel the frequency that people ask for reports has only slightly reduced.

If you are talking about out of game feeling, yea, they have removed things that provided clarity and transparency like the warning notification and tribunal, and that can make you feel like the system isn't doing much.

Monthly Report Cards was a cool community concept that would solve alot of the transparency and clarity issues. Riot Tantram has since came out to say that he is currently developing something more compelling that. So we can only hope he is on the right track.

Why do people call it toxic? Like what happened to just saying yeah this guy is an asshole

It coming to light this season that the employees in Riot are also toxic asf showing their hypocrisy didn't help either.

If were talking in the shortterm then yes, most players avoid playing rabked around the end of the season/ beginning of a new season, so we're unfortunately left with the more toxic players.

As for the long run then it's a given. The more popular the game gets the more players. Given the vpice of one toxic player is stronger that a few good/ positive players aren't that heard gives the feeling of more toxicity.

Frankly you get one to four toxic players (including the enemy team that is) in a match, that's 20% - 40% toxicity in a game while the remaining 80-60% goes unnoticed for the most part.

Is this an excuse for toxic behaviour beig on? Heck no, but it explains why ns the feeling of increased toxicity imo.

Hey! So I wanted to add in my two cents. I'm a female who has been gaming since 1999. I was a young kid at that time, but regardless, I have experienced a lot of toxicity throughout my gaming years. I think that the toxicity is getting worse not because games are getting worse, but rather gaming is now more mainstream than ever. You were considered really nerdy if you played video games. It's gotten a lot more acceptable to play video games, and so you're seeing a larger amount of people in these games than before. Prior to season 1 and up to like season 4ish, it was a fairly chill game with little bad mouthing. Unfortunately, all games are experiencing this, not just League. League is just an especially competitive game.
