Guide to Enjoying League of Legends

Now, I've noticed a strange thing when it comes to this game. A lot people that actively play it don't seem to enjoy playing it. Personally, I love this game to bits. I recognize it has flaws but, I love it for the things it gets right. I figured I'd make a guide of sorts. Some advice to players to improve their game in the way that matters most. Having fun.

Number 1: Play to win, but don't take it so seriously Winning feels good. We all know that, we all strive for that and that's fine. But you shouldn't feel so bad about losing. Don't beat yourself up over it and remind yourself it's just a game. Don't feel bad about trying out new champs or some different strategies either.

Number 2: It's not your fault, or your teammates When you lose a game, don't think of it as a result of your own shortcomings. Don't blame your 1/6 Lucian either. It's not always because your team is bad, it's that the enemy played well. Strive to improve, practice your game, and aim to be better than the opponent if you ever face someone of that skill level again.

Number 3: Play what you want, when you want So you're a support main, and you're not great at other roles. But Elise looks fun and you want to play her some. Go for it. Try to learn that new champion or new playstyle. Don't lock yourself into playing the same champ if you feel that's getting stale or unfun. Maybe don't take Elise into ranked the first time you play her, but play her in normals until you're confident you can play her great.

Number 4: Be honorable Be nice to your teammates, and your opponents. If you treat people with respect, they'll be far more likely to do the same to you. And it feels good to be treated nicely. You won't be able to change everyone in the game, but even if you make one person's day a little better that's something you should feel great about.

Number 5: Know when to be silent Your Tryndamere is flaming you hard for not ganking his lane when he was pushed up way too far for you to be useful anyways. Don't type that line into your textbox calling him a [censored for far too much toxicity and profanity.] Just don't say anything. Mute/ignore him if you must, and report him at the end of the game. If luck is on your side you'll get that instant feedback report an hour later and it'll feel oh so good knowing they got rightly punished.

Number 6: Know when to stop Sometimes you're just having bad game after bad game, but you wanna grind out that climb to Silver 5. If you're not having fun, and feel like you're not going to be having much fun in your current mood... Find something else to do. Relax, read a book. Play a different game that's not so competitive. Enjoy life, and come back to the game when you think you will have fun again. You don't have to get in 15 games in a day to become a god at Lee Sin. Play at your own pace.

This isn't a comprehensive ruleset by any means. Everyone has fun in their own way. This is meant to be more of a guide. Something to help you on your way. Have fun out there. Enjoy yourself.

I like most of those, just not number 2.

It can very well be the fault of yourself or someone else that a game goes favorably or unfavorably. Someone goes a little out of position and gets caught causing a bad teamfight (which they then push to end the game). A lane doesn't have the map awareness necessary to avoid several ganks and ends up doing poorly. And so on. It happens, people make mistakes.

To which I fall back on Number 1 though. It's just a game. There's no need to beat yourself or anyone else up about making a mistake in a game. It's not like doing so is going to change what has already happened. So the best thing you can do is look back at your own mistakes and try to learn from them. Let other people do the same for their own mistakes, since if they want to improve themselves it's their responsibility to look for how to do that. The responsibility of you as a player in the game is to just do your best in that game.

In all honestly, this helped me get my feet on the Ground again.

I love Riot and LoL, but the Gameplay sometimes fucks me up emotionally big times. So yeah, this helped me remember to just have fun and enjoy my all time favorite Game as what it is, a Game.

So we shouldn't take ranked game seriously? Good luck climbing with that mentality.

Number 2: It's not your fault, or your teammates When you lose a game, don't think of it as a result of your own shortcomings. Don't blame your 1/6 Lucian either. If I get Disco Nunu who went 0/30/0 it's not his fault that we lost?

Great advice mate, just play whatever you want, it doesn't matter if your teammates will be pissed at you, it's only important to have fun, even tho it's at the cost of other player's fun xDDDDDd

Even if they are purposely trying to lose the game I should respect them?

Ohh yea, he definitelly deserved to get punished because you ignored him ^^ Based on your last sentence, you look like type of guy who will take random pick on random lane in ranked and laugh his ass off when his teammates get upset and try to get them banned. Disgusting...

I agree it's super important to not get sucked in. And especially not loop around in pointless circles when you're not even having fun. Unless you're trying out for LCS, quite honestly, the only person your performance matters to is you. And that can be enough, but balance the joy of winrate / rank against the joy you can get from playing this game... as a game.

Now I'm not saying actively troll... but perfection in irrelevance is no perfection atall.
