Y: A Story of How I Messed Up (And How You Can Too)

So I normally don't do this type of post, but I finally hit rock bottom, and needed to let off some steam. So today I have for you a simple post: why I'm probably going to get temp banned for something that I actually deserved, but why I hope I can get this lifted.

I just got out of one of the most draining games of my League of Legends career, one created by a combination of my own poor play and one fellow teammate (hereby referred to as Y). Y starts off by instructing our team to invade (innocent enough), but this is in contrast to his choice of Yasuo Jungle. Now, I'm an advocate for allowance of off-meta picks: this is a game, enjoy it, and play what you find fun. However, an off-meta jungler is not normally something you choose to invade with. Eventually, this leads to a stalemate and the invade is called off, no harm, no foul, just weird.

And thus begins the cycle of dumber and dumber plays by myself, combined with an increasing animosity received from Y. After warding my lane, I happily begin farming against my opponent. However, much to my mistake, I neglected to by a pink ward (or a vision ward as the young'uns call it) when we first got into the game, so I fell privy to a Pyke gank. Thus, I now had a death, but Y seemed not at all put off. Stuff like that happens, right?

After coming back into lane, I see that Y is trying to contest the enemy blue. Both myself and the midlaner ping MIA for our laners, and continue our business. Unfortunately, Y was unable to make it out in time (to his credit, he immediately attempted to vacate the premises when notified, he just simply wasn't fast enough). He fell victim to a 1v3, dying shortly thereafter. And, as all astute League players know, when your Yasuo Jungle dies in a 1v3 in the enemy jungle, it is the fault of the Malphite Top who just got into lane. With this obvious chain of responsibility, Y responded accordingly by informing me that I should have helped him, despite my inability to do so from dying to a gank. Oh well, mistakes were made, time to move on.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, I died to a Pyke gank a second time. Y is now considerably and understandably disappointed in my performance. I'm an early game tank, I should be winning this 1v2 lane after all. I shoulder it, and Y graciously decides to assist my lane for the first time in the game. Now, being a Yasuo Jungle, Y is not incredibly fond of stealth, and so decided to opt for a lane gank. Bold, I like it. In my stupidity (sarcasm aside this time, it actually was stupid) I forgot to ult the enemy Aatrox, Pyke showed up, and both Y and I died as a result.

All Hell just broke loose

Cue Y telling me I'm horrible at this game, that I fed Aatrox (who was 1/1/4 at this time), and asking my duo partner "Why is your duo so dumb?". I've shouldered this style of flame in the past (as I tend to play League as a game, and so don't always focus on it as though the game was my only child), so I just move on and hope this wave of animosity passes over so I can play. At this point, I'm understandably behind on CS (having been camped and dying 3 times). Y even commented on this fact. So, apparently to assist me in farming, Y heads to my lane (which is now empty aside from a minion wave near the turret). I figure "Oh, the good fellow must be seeing my struggle, and wishes to counteract the Pyke ganks".

Unfortunately, it seems that Y misunderstood certain items. You see, for the passive to work on item 3302 , you actually need to be in possession of the item. It came as a significant surprise to me when Y took all the farm and smited the cannon minion (while dragon was up). In my surprise, I finally took to the keyboard. Repeated waves of animosity against me finally took its toll, and in one dark moment, I released a beast I have been suppressing for the longest time.

3 simple words

"F*** off Yasuo"

Immediately afterwards, I realized my mistake. For you see, although Y was a fool, he was no idiot. Everything Y had said/done would not be registered by an algorithm or machine-learned program, but my statement would stick out like a Yasuo Jungle in an otherwise normal team. Defeatedly, I refocussed into just finishing the game, knowing that I might not be able to play for a while because of a failed moment, but that this man who took to driving me to that point (and seemingly took pleasure in it) will probably do it to someone else as I would be typing this.

The moral of the story, ladies and gents, is to ban Yasuo realize that you are not always going to be able to control the voice inside you that tells you to explode, but that you shouldn't let it explode on the keyboard (and especially not at your teammates). Good Luck, and have fun on the Rift!

FAQ:

Q: Why didn't you ban Yasuo? A: Because mid was my duo and doesn't play Yasuo, and both of our champ pools counter Yasuo

Q: Why didn't you mute him? A: I did, for a time pretty much immediately after he started yelling at me. Problem is, he also typed vital info (like where he wanted us to make a play). Once other teammates started calling me out on not following Y's typed instructions, I had a choice: put up with flame from Y, or lose the game and have it ACTUALLY be my fault 100%. I thought I could handle it, I was wrong.

Q: Is this an appeal to not get banned? A: As much as I would love for a Rioter to read this (should I get a ban) and relieve me of the punishment, the moral behind this story is that I DID flame. A mistake I hope my past record protects me from, but one that I cannot excuse with a story. So long story short: If it was, admitting I flamed would be a stupid appeal theme.

Q: What's your favorite color? A: Red

Q: Maybe you should have played better, and he wouldn't have flamed you? A: I mean, while his flaming was centered around my doing poorly, that wasn't the root of the issue. If everyone played like a platinum player, would there be no flame? Various videos of platinum elo games would argue otherwise.

It's good that you admit fault, but take your punishment like a man. (Should it actually come, considering by the tone of your post you haven't been punished)
