Support Main :/ Treated like garbage. But it is the only role i can do well.

Im just saying this as a support main. Please keep in mind that I'm only level 20 but almost every game from level 1 i have played SorakaSoraka or JannaJanna and have main-ed support. I originally chose this role because i thought it was fairly simple, keep your adc alive, don't die, and more recently learned, harass the enemy ADC and support as much as possible safely. Recently however, i've started to notice that i get a lot of hate for not doing something correctly. If i hit my ult a second too late and somebody dies, I seem to get all of the hate. I understand that i keep my team alive but i can't be expected to do all the work can I? please give me some feedback, this is starting to make me play the game less and less, i might uninstall soon.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having a negative experience with other players on the Rift. For starters, don't let the haters get to you. If they're giving you a hard time, just mute them and report them after the game. We need fewer toxic players on the game anyway (: from my experiences with the game, it's likely that people in duo lanes tend to get upset when things go poorly because they're (1) competitive and (2) somewhat forced to depend on another player for optimal performance within a lane. I'm not saying that toxicity is justified; but this is probably why you're feeling like you have a target on your back.

Sometimes calling these players out may get them to realize how much of a dick they're being, but otherwise, muting will definitely take away their power to verbally abuse you.

It's important to distinguish that League of Legends isn't a toxic game; the very nature of anonymity on the internet enables individuals to say certain things that they would otherwise not say in real life. Riot has been working on systems to hold players responsible for their actions, such as the Instant Feedback system; however, the systems aren't perfect and Riot is continuing to build up these systems as well as determine whether new systems need to be built.

Welcome to the League of Legends, and let me know if you have any other concerns!

Thats the life in League.... supports are blamed for not healing/shielding/ccing in time, jungles are blamed for not ganking, ADC gets blamed for going too ham or not enough, mid gets blamed if they lose lane and enemy mid roams hard and pings but nobody listens to it.... top gets blamed for split pushing/not tele helping. It happens. Same as in real life people flame you for no reason except you did something slower/not as good as someone else.

Don't let negativity drive you from the support role let alone the game if you're enjoying yourself. It's going to be tough, but you're going to toughen up a bit. Doesn't mean comments won't sting, annoy, or even anger you. But what is it that you enjoy about support?

I've been a support main for 4 seasons because I originally loved being a healer in multiplayer games so I was drawn to the role. I love protecting my team. I love that there's a job where I can freely harass the enemy in lane and not have to be fixated on csing. I will be a frothing pitbull in your face if you go near my marksman, even if i'm a (seemingly) squishy support. I feel joyful when a well placed ward prevents a member of my team from certain death or helps them secure a kill. If you can relate to any of that, then keep at it.

It's a learning process. You're only level 20. You will get there. Don't let the negative people win and push you away if you are enjoying yourself.

Welcome to League of Legends and to the support community. Though it may not always seem like it, we are glad to have you. Good luck out there and have fun! :)

This is a rough game to learn.

As a fellow support main that started the game relatively recently (January), the best I can suggest is to find a higher-skill friend who plays ADC to grind games with you. That's how I learned. They were able to give me rational and measured feedback, rather than knee-jerk blaming me any time something went wrong, which helped a lot in figuring out exactly what my role was and how best to play it.

Also, try watching some youtube videos of experienced support players. The role is very nuanced, and even after months of playing it, I'm still learning more of what it truly means to be "support".

Switch over to ADC, the abuse is less common. If you follow that guide to get good at CSing in bot games that pops up here you will get good at CSing fast. I haven't put in the practice yet but I feel like I already make more of an impact on games and my CS is terrible.

I climbed to gold with support before. If you're going to supp or jungle in this game you either need a thick skin or you need to be willing to troll a little bit and enjoy negative attention. Game is toxic just how it is.

You get hate if your adc starts diving, pushing unnecessarily, being too aggressive, and not defending lane as well. Also, if your kills don't seem to carry. (Cause clearly support = damage dealing.)

Support main here.. Advice from upper elo..

"/mute all" makes the bad people go away..

here is the thing.. People are people.. its a high stress game.. people react odd to stress..

dont start shouting "report (insert name here) for (insert reason here)" in /all ... it does no one any good..

You should have the mentality of win game not baby sit ADC...

give you some examples: ADC pushes the wave (either AA often or using abilities). then they expect you to ward the river bush... start playing alittle behind because a gank is coming.. and if he wants to push .. he should probably ward that.
if he does ward it.. you can follow up ward (when a ward dies just refresh it with one of yours) because 2 wards cover a good period of time so you can alternate and keep one location warded 100% of the time between 2 people.. but if they neglect it.. /mute and play back slightly..

this is not a game to get in arguments with people.. high stress people want to argue.. it happens .. breath and mute.. then do whatever you where doing before..

if you are feeding.. probably should stop doing that..

if your ADC is unhappy with you dieing and started to refuse to help because they think you are the only person in lane.. just play back.. accept you will be behind.. leave the adc in lane fights and wait for mid game.. then when he is trying to CS.. take as much farm as you can and run away before the ganks.. if he isnt using the farm properly.. its your farm now.. then you /mute his duo because that guy is going to start relaying his concern.. then you /mute the 3rd guy.. normally there is one guy who sides with the group that feels he needs to add in his 2 cents... he doesnt..

now after you have collected farm and muted most of your team.. the laning phase should be over..

start learning how to recognize missing enemies and what spots would be a good pick point to take you out.. avoid them.. if you ward an area.. favor that area and avoid the darkness if possible..

if you can count to 5 twice than you can play this game..

count the enemy .... if you see all 5 .. darkness is safe.. per-say.. if you can count 5 of your own team around you.. prepare for a fight.. because you are grouped for a reason..

if you cant count all the enemy .. expect them in every bush.. if you dont have your whole team around you.. prepare to run.. because they will..

Dont funnel into death..

if 1 person dies.. 2nd guy runs in and dies.. times to rethink directions .. and it may be too late already.. your team is unorganized and needs a different approach to fighting..

i say i am a support main.. but i have better success in the middle.. the rare chance i get mid i feel like a god because i have played behind often..

if you want to get better you have to think every time you lose that loss was your fault and how to improve yourself not the random team mates. Every loss is not your fault.

If you want one less jerk on the field of justice I would like to add you! I know all about people blaming the support for no reason at all and can help teach you how to deal with it when it happens again [slayer-jinx-catface]

Pick up Zyra and enjoy having solo kill potential while still bringing zoning, poke, CC, and disengage, it's a lot more fun if your carry is a raging potato.

BastionKross7/28/2016, 6:14:59 PM1 votes

The best advice I can give is to duo with someone who plays marksmen. You two can't really be toxic to each other since you're together for more than a single game, and you work together better than random strangers. And having your marksman defend you if someone else on the team start flaming you is a good feeling.

Other than that, mute everyone before the game starts and then do your best. Yes, you might miss some important calls or a funny joke, but it's a small price to pay for reducing toxicity dramatically.

Silly Neeko7/26/2016, 9:51:52 AM1 votes

Just chin up and carry on. Ragers and flamers will rage, just mute them by pressing and holding tab, and clicking the little speaker by their name.

Every role receives blame. Don't take it to heart.
