Game Unenjoyable for New Players

Sorry if I am venting or being disruptive, it's really not my intent. I just wanted to share my opinion. I am a new League player and while I have enjoyed the diversity of the champions and the mechanics of the game, there is a serious problem for new players. I have only experienced a handful of games out of approximately 40 PvP matches where the game feels balanced and fun for everyone (win or lose). It seems to be a complete stomp in one direction or another. If you're on the losing side of the match, expect to be called a racial or homophobic slur by your own teammate (at best) or be threatened with violence. I do appreciate how well Riot follows up with reports. I imagine a lot of this behavior and imbalance is due to the ease of making a new account if you already have experience with the game. I will never understand why people take joy in beating up new players and calling them names, but if others are experiencing what I am in this game, I wouldn't expect them to stick around. I don't imagine that I will be playing again, but I wanted to share my experience because I do feel like Riot does care about the gameplay at the end of the day. It is still an entertaining game to spectate and I'm sure that I will watch competitive play, but after my experiences, especially the past few days, I can't ever see myself coming back. Felt so terrible about my experience that I wanted to share because I do think that Riot cares enough to figure a way around this. I hope I do not offend anyone as I am sure many people enjoy the game and behave well, but I wanted to give my insight as a new player in 2018 and hopefully a game that many people love can find a way to make a better new player experience to foster legitimate player base growth in the future.

Please don't apologize for sharing your opinion. It's totally okay to do so and seek other's view to try and understand stuff better.

It's a shame that toxicity made you give up on the game, though I understand why new players would do so.

You do not log into a game to get insulted by strangers. You're here to have fun.

Unfortunatly, the League of Legends playerbase is incredibly toxic. Of course, a part of the community is filled with respectful and kind people, but it's a fact : the majority is toxic.

I've been playing for quite a while now, and....perhaps I was lucky enough to not encounter toxicity early on. I don't know if I would have quit the game or held on because I'm was still having fun.

I don't know if this issue will ever be fixed. Toxicity is ingrained in people's mind and have become a habit. Even popular streamers are famous...because they are toxic.

A part of the playerbase take them as models and act the same way. Another one...perhaps developped toxicity due to the competitiveness of the game.

However, what I do not understand is the NEED to let others know that YOU'RE angry and YOU think your teammates are trash.

I can just hope, like you, that it will get better in time.

A thoughtful, non-insulting insight into the league of legends new player experience. Its like a breath of fresh air xD

Anyways, yeah i think it is due to the fact the game is free, so new accounts only cost you your time... we all know how much time people are willing to waste.

I dont really know the solution to this, but if you do continue playing and get a little better, or perhaps find friends to play with so you dont have to rely on random strangers, the experience will become much more enjoyable... at least in my experience it did. You could also see if muting helps, but i completely understand not wanting to mute people. i dont know why, but i hate muting people.

Anyways, good luck with whatever path you choose!

Hey, I'm sorry you feel that way. I just want to point out that the large discrepancy in knowledge between truly new players is likely to result in lopsided matches. Once you get better and to a higher level, you should notice matches being much more evenly matched.

I agree, I feel bad for new players trying it out for the first time. Making a new account after being perma banned on this one to work on my reforming It felt awkward. For one, most knew what they were doing already, and already knew how to be toxic. Another thing was low levels grouping with higher ranks, making it feel slightly unbalanced. Course you never know if one is a smurf or not.

Starting league the first time was a great experience till I experienced ranked. The very first rank game I had, people were flaming left and right and were complete jerks, including myself later on.

That being said, starting now isn't as enjoyable as it was back then, and having the experience you had and entering ranked could be worse, if you were planning to go into it. Thanks for sharing, and I hope it gets better...

And to top it all of. New players have an avarage queue time of 3 minutes for draft and sometimes even ARAM.

If you are searching for a game with enjoyable online community, you should no go with MOBAs at all. People always seem to misunderstand the words "competetiveness" and "trash-talk" for "abusing others", so games that feature an active way of communicatiing with your team via chat are bound to be unenjoyable, if toxic behavoir pulls you down.

This is why I like Splatoon. No voice or written chat. Just 4 pings. " when alive, 2 when dead. 1 of each being a positive message, the other one is for stratigical use.

It is nice to see such a supportive response from the community here. I felt like maybe I was the only one and it's good to know that at least I am not alone. Of course, I have dealt with toxicity in gaming, but with these being such team dependent games and also matches lasting for a pretty long amount of time, I think the sentiment gets amplified. I think a new player is required to do a lot of "homework" at entry level just to feel like they are able to play the game how a meta has structured the game to be played. Sure, you could play a lot of champions in a lot of roles, but when new, the best meta roles are hard to overcome. I know I have had worry of if I'm going to be flamed even when I buy my first items. If you do put in the time to learn about item builds, rune builds, and champ counters as a new player, you will have a lot more success. I just feel like it is an awful lot of time and energy investment to ask of a new player without making it clear that you'll more or less be required to do this in order to be competitive in even low level quick match PvP. Thank you everyone for making me feel welcome to share my opinion at least. :)

My advice is get 4 friends in Discord and just enjoy yourself. It's hard for me to play solo nowadays, but I've gathered a bunch of people I enjoy playing with so that, chances are, at least a few of them are online at any given time. And I'm pretty sure most low-elo players agree--the most fun you can have in League is screwing around with 4 buddies.

As a semi new player I think I have the right to say it is SUPER fun, most people I’ve seen are very supportive to the noob. Helping them, teaching them how to mute the toxic ones. I still remember this match when I was playing Annie, I think it was my 4th ever match, and there was this lux and in the name of Urf she was the most toxic person. This blitzcrank, who I still thank and have friended, helped me mute her, figure out the game, farm, summon tibbers, eventually win, and have an overall AMAZING game! Blitz was also fun to talk to, (and don’t worry I’m cautious online) and play with. These people do make league fun for noobs! So in summary I have to say that if your smart about it, League IS a fun game for noobs.
