Absurdly Sensitive Player Community

Riot created a gaming community that is incredibly over sensitive to any criticism. I agree that a player's person should never be taken into conversation; however, telling someone that they are bad at a computer game should not be ban-worthy. If my teammate is feeding, then I'd hope they were capable of listening so that we could improve their lane.

The report system in this game allows anyone who has had their feelings hurt to subject the other player to a random algorithm, that ultimately decides based off of statistics and analyses that are ran on the game's chats. If you get your feelings hurt because someone called you out for feeding, let this poorly designed algorithm decide if they deserve to have a chat ban, suspension, or their account deleted. It's completely ridiculous.

At the center of the algorithm is Riot's drive to maintain inexpensive game management and upkeep; just like everything else, it's revolving around Riot's profits.. Players assume that Riot has this absurd banning system in place because they want to protect the hurt feelings, innocent tears, and fragile egos of overly-sensitive league players; but really, it's just a crappy, profit driven company that doesn't care who is getting unfairly penalized. This game should reach equilibrium with every other video game, where players are allowed to type in chat without getting slapped with bans.

Name one game where harassment and verbal abuse aren't punished.

The reality is that players in League who think they're improperly banned generally aren't just giving constructive criticism. They're insulting, berating, and belittling their teammates.

I have the right to lose a game without being called a "fucking idiot" by my team. Calling me a "fucking idiot" won't help me play better.

Not on its own, no - but it isn't ban-worthy on it's own. However, if you have a habit of telling random players that they're bad, you're eventually going to get banned, because, fun fact: It's against the rules to harass other players.

If my teammate is feeding, then I'd hope they were capable of listening so that we could improve their lane.

Are you talking about someone who is intentionally feeding, or playing poorly? You need to make a distinction before you start talking about it.

And, if it's someone playing poorly - telling them that they suck isn't going to make them do better.

The report system in this game allows anyone who has had their feelings hurt

I'm gonna stop the track right here. This is a horrendously common (and absurd) misconception that a lot of people have.

##If you get punished, it's very likely NOT because someone had their feelings hurt and reported you, it's because they felt like you were being a dick, reported you, and the system agreed.

Sure, there are going to be cases where it does involve people's feelings, but the majority of the time, I'm willing to bet people are just wanting to be done with you and prevent other players from having to put up with your BS.

let this poorly designed algorithm decide

It caught you, didn't it? I don't think it's poorly designed if it's fully capable of weeding out toxic players who abuse the chat.

It's completely ridiculous.

Not as ridiculous as thinking you should be able to get away with calling people bad and assuming they'll magically become good.

At the center of the algorithm is Riot's drive to maintain inexpensive game management and upkeep;

And then there's the "I got chat-restricted/temp-banned/permabanned, therefor Riot is money-hungry" card. All of that third paragraph is you just railing against the people who reported you, calling them "over-sensitive" (as is the point of this post, I assume), and railing against Riot for your assumption that they're so focused on money that they don't care about the community as a whole.

They do care, by the way, which is why they developed the IFS. It's extremely efficient (not perfect, mind, but efficient), and it's capable of handling the majority of the work that it's assigned to.

This game should reach equilibrium with every other video game, where players are allowed to type in chat without getting slapped with bans.

No, I rather like the thought of not having to deal with rampant toxicity, thank you.

Can you post some examples of chat logs from punishments that back up your claims? Someone who is giving criticism without flaming or being toxic in the logs and was punished? Without that this is just going to be taken as someone who was punished making a rage post.

Also, if they were hiring people to manually review every single game in a timely manner, what makes you think that the people reviewing the games would punish or not punish in scenarios that the system currently punishes or doesn't punish in. People would just be making posts saying that their case was reviewed too quickly or poorly in that case, which would be just as false.

...it's just a crappy, profit driven company that doesn't care who is getting unfairly penalized.

...hence why they frequently dive into a punishment a second time and reverse bans found to be incorrectly applied?

I would suggest it's more likely that the issue is more likely that many players have a bit of trouble finding the line between constructive criticism and insulting criticism. The former is fine, but you can't be an asshole while giving advice.

I don't feel "don't be an asshole/insulting to other people," "don't use hate speech," and "don't be overly sexual" to be overly restrictive community rules.

What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

Do tell, what company out there exists that isn't profit driven? Even charities have to make profits to pass along to the needy and employ the peiple who make the charities function. Being upset that a company wants to limit overhead so that their *completely free to play world renowned game * can continue existing is probably the stupidest thing to be upset about or even bring into a conversation like this.

It's not that you offend people, it's that you are annoying.

Ok see thats a common misconception about what riot wants. The system was based of the tribunal system, which is the system that let players decide whats banworthy.

But that aside though, my main point is going to be that riot wants a Sportsmanlike community. Calling someone garbage isnt sportsmanlike, nor is it really criticism. You dont HAVE to call them out for feeding amd then argue, so why would you waste your time?

Going back to criticism, they support constructive feedback, not just strait up flaming someone.

IE: "Its pretty noobish to build tabis vs an elise because she dosent do much physical damage anyway. Perhaps you should build merc treads instead because it lowers her CC, and you get more magic resist"

"You fkin noob who builds tabis vs an elise? Go take your feeding ass back to bronze scrub, who dosent even know what the hell merc treads are"

Both are insults, but the first gives the player the option to take it as advice rather then an insult, AND shows your still attempting to work with them, while the second most can agree is just plain douchy and would be punishable.

I like what you wrote until the profit part. I don't think this has anything to do with profit but I do think the community is a bit too sensitive. There are too many special snowflakes who cry report at the first mention of a bad word, not flaming, just a simple bad thing like "gosh, stop playing like a noob", or "pls go practice a bit vs bots" - after dying 5 times miles away from their turret. I think it's simply the problem with the millennials and younger generations who can't learn from their mistakes because they refuse to accept them, so they get offended every time somebody calls them bad. But since it's not Riot's job to do what their parents didn't, the only way to prevent the flame is banning those who do it. And before people come saying "flaming does no good" and "why flame when you can tell them how to get better", we all know that flaming never happens out of the blue. From what I've seen, there is always somebody who tells them to stop feeding, to play defensive, to buy something because it's better, and it's only after they refuse to listen and continue playing badly that the "toxic" players snap. There is never just one perspective.

There's a fundamental disconnect between players who complain about the punishment system catering to feelings and what is actually going on.

First and foremost, this is a game. Games are for fun. League is supposed to be a fun, engaging pastime.

Now, calling someone bad is literally just being an asshole. It will not, in any way, ever, help you win your game. It is a purely negative action.

Believe it or not, you can actually give people advice about the game without calling them bad.

Hurt feelings or not, why should Riot allow you to harass someone? Why do you think that it's okay? You're only contributing to the negative atmosphere of a game and contributing nothing. That is why it's not allowed.

The League community is 100% pussified. Literally a bunch of kids hiding behind the report system because they get their feelings hurt. If someone talk shit to you, do it back. Grow a pair and stop being sensitive little bitches.

Telephone Booth6/12/2019, 11:55:39 PM1 votes

The community created itself. League is just the avenue they hang out on. A gaming company cant control people.
