At What Point Are Unusual Picks & Trolling Unacceptable?

Recently I have ran into a player who only plays Thresh. He's mostly Thresh Top + Mid every game. Now, I'm not quite against unusual champions playing as laners but.. this person never does well and he's losing a lot more than he is winning (He feeds nearly every game, and he only has a 43% win rate currently). At what point is his "unusual pick" considered a negative influence to his teammates? He's consistently feeding in his games and losing, does this not constitute some form of intent.. seeing how he keeps doing it even though he's seen little to no success?

I did not report this person when I ran into him, because I didn't really care that he was trying it out (I figured maybe he was just good, or having some fun).. but after he was struggling the entire game, I decided to check him out. I then proceeded to see that he does it almost every game and has never really had anything positive come from it.

I'd really love to see some input about this, how should a player handle this situation? Should a person such as this be reported? Is it acceptable? I am truly uncertain on my feelings regarding it and I'd love to understand what other people are thinking.

By your context, it does not sounds like he is trolling or intentionally feeding. He is simply bad. There is nothing wrong with one-trick (at least as far as Rito punishment is concern). He is not picking a random troll pick. He's picking his one-trick.

You can report anyone for anything. The option is always there for you. However, it's doubtful he will be punished as he did nothing wrong. If you are playing with him, then you are at about his skill level. I'd focus more on why you are at his skill level, less on him, and more on how you rise above him. If you are hard stuck there, then you are the last person who should be throwing stones at him....

Some people are just bad. You won't play with them again so long as your mmr goes above a certain threshold. If he plays only Thresh I doubt he's trolling; trolls tend to pick random champs, depending on what will appear worse.

You guys missed the point that, he's not playing Thresh in the intended role for the champion. The guy is NOT a bad Thresh player, he is playing Thresh in a role which Thresh is not designed for as a champion. That is indeed a form of trolling, especially in the context that he never has succeeded with it (Mid / Top lanes). If that is his "main" he should be playing the champion where it is intended (Support).

And don't even try to tell me that it's acceptable for him to play a champion where ever he wants as the champions are listed by role, and Riot specifically balances champion based on what their role is. Thresh is a Support, not a Mid lane champion.

I don’t mind off meta picks if you know what you’re doing. To your point if he is not successful then it’s dumb and I’d more mad at Riot for matchmaking me with that garbage player. Don’t do it in ranked. Regardless not reportable.

Nah shouldn't be reportable. If it's bad he will drop to shit elo and if it's good he will climb. Allow people to play with the meta as they wish. However there's a difference between off-meta and trolling. Report the trolls. Honestly I don't know if there's a way to tell the difference.
