why is punishment for flaming much harsher than trolling inting afking ??? it just doesnt sound right to me , afks trolls and leaver ruin the game 100% but the flaming mostly comes up when a team mate sucks and the game is pretty much over (*** im not defending flamers by no means) but cmon ... recovering from flaming punishment takes month and even more but recovering from a leaver buster takes an hour or so and thats if u get the top punishment ................................... you need to punish leavers and afks much harsher than this .

Simple. Internet connectivity is not guaranteed. It's quite obvious that MOST players have connection issues at one time or another with all the lag and dcs, etc. So the Leaver system is more lenient because you can't always control your ISP. Also, not many people quit the game because they had a few games with team mates dcing (because we all know it happens and it happens to everyone).

OTOH, you can ALWAYS control your mouth. And people DO quit because they were bulled, harassed, etc by a fellow player.

I'm not saying what IS and ISN'T ok. I am telling you it is a financial decision (just like most business decisions) by Riot. If you have 100% control over something (collecting and analyzing actual black and white chat), then you are free to make decisions about it (to punish or not to punish). If you don't have control (internet connectivity), then you have to be more lenient because it is NOT always the players fault.

You just proved my point with your second paragraph. Leaver Buster looks for consistent leaving BECAUSE it's not sure if every leave is an actual afk or a dc. IF we were all hard wired to Rito's servers, then a leave would definitely be a leave. No doubt. But since we are on this sketchy internet, nope.

Ok, lets put out a couple scenarios.

  1. You have someone who doesn't care about the penalty and leaves an average of 10 games a week. That's 90 people who's game is affected, but it's worse for the 4 on his team. Most will be annoyed with him, but will probably shrug it off by the next game.

  2. You have someone who flames an average of 10 games a week and takes it to all-chat. Now, you have up to 90 people with a variety of reactions. Some will just ignore his rage and/or mute him. A few will retaliate, making things worse, and continuing into their next game. And maybe 3-4 will decide League's reputation for toxicity is warranted and leave for other games.

Now, when that toxic player gets a 2-week ban, that suddenly leaves 180 players who don't have to put up with him. That leaves the ignore/mute faction happy for the better communication, the retaliators don't risk their own accounts, and League retains another 6-8 players.

And, before you bring up money, think about this. What's more financially sound: Retaining 1 player who drives away players and revenue, or booting him to keep multiple players in the game and willing to spend money?

Good ol public discourse. One thread says leaves penalties are too harsh, another says they aren't harsh enough. It will never be perfect for everyone. But I think Anastaecia's reasoning was a pretty good thought. Kind of rationalizes it well in my opinion.

Years ago, I was punished for AFK/Leaving because my ISP was shitty and would go down on a regular basis. Once a new ISP became available in my area and I got a different ISP, I wasn't disconnecting like crazy and I haven't been punished because my ISP is now pretty good and doesn't disconnect me often. It's not perfect and I get disconnected once every few months but that's not my fault and rightly so I am not punished for it.

I am not responsible for those outages and the disconnect that ruined a game but those inters, flamers, and trolls are definitely responsible for ruining games.

Because of the intent, they're punished harsher. If Riot sees a pattern of intentional AFK's, then they're punished harshly because it's intentional behavior vs situations like...
