I used to love this game, but as my level rises and my skill doesn't I find the other players are really horrible to me. Telling each other to report me for trolling, for being a bad player. They're swearing at me and telling me to die. I want to improve by playing more PVP but how can I when so many people are out there being really nasty? I've actually had to leave a game because someone just kept saying to report me for being crap and now obviously I'm the one being punished.

What action will be taken against me for not being a very good player? What's the point in playing if I'm driven away from PVP?

You will be punished by losing MMR and LP, possibly demoted to a lower division / league. That's about it though, you won't face any formal punishment, just the natural punishments that come along with being bad.

First of all, no one should ever be able to "kept" saying anything you don't like to you after the first time because you have the mute option. I advice you to make good use of the mute function AND report as well. Secondly, you will never be punished for being a bad player. Thirdly, do not believe the myth that refusing to communicate is a punishable offense even if reported (unless you trolled or do something weird like a double jungle/top/mid and refused to talk with your team about it first) so use the mute liberally.
