So an "argument" has two definitions:
I highlighted the portion of the second definition that is not acceptable in League. Disagreements and debate are fine in League. Heated, negatively-toned arguments are not.
Edit: Debates that take over the game are also not productive. Keep your discussions brief and to-the-point, and do not continue a prolonged disagreement when it is clear that the people involved cannot reach a compromise that benefits the team.
This chat log is toxic, ok. But the point of the thread still stands. Arguing is not automatically negative and should be fully allowed in chat. Calling people out, flaming, asking to report someone, etc. etc. does not have any constructive purpose. Discussing gameplay and objectives and plans for games, even in a heated manner is NOT negative. It might be annoying to some and can mutee if they want. But a punishment on game related interventions, should be encouraged in chat. We are asked to play to win and to win sometimes getting some plans going is is crucial.
Even honor progressions are slowed down when we get reported over arguments on gameplay, because it was considered negative
The main issue with arguing is that it sways from the actual purpose of the game. While you're sitting there trying to debate with your teammate on what they should or should not do, the game is still going on and will continue without you.
You have to set aside the difference and follow the team as of whole. Random players do not always nominate people to call shots. If they do not follow, then you're not the shot caller, which conclude that you cannot argue with the team if they're interested in other objectives. Starting arguments creates tensions which can lead to negativity. Arguments should be only in voice chat with a pre-made team and not with random players.
Random players have different standards, objectives, and other game plans. So you can't go into a debate with a random player that has different standards of playing. Everyone's goal is to win, but not everyone is going to play out the game as you want them to, and they're not objects for you to place and to control. So no, you shouldn't argue in random games with random people.
If you can't let something go, and you continue to argue, then you're being negative. Negativity creates toxicity. One thing can ignite another. So it's better if you do not argue.
If only people could use chat to be productive.
Not sure if anyone's still following this thread, but I got an update from a support agent and he said that he agrees that what league specifies as toxic should be clarified more, but he's unable to force any changes without community feedback.
tl;dr: Some support agents agree with this, but they don't have the power to change anything as of this moment.
Season 15: You have been banned for that sick tweet you made last week. Thank you Chef, very cool!
I got a 10 game chat restriction for calling my Janna out for him calling ME garbage (insert all kinds of cuss words here) and telling me to uninstall, "girls can't play video games" etc. I literally just told him to stop being such a toxic jerk and told him I'd be reporting him post-game and told my other teammates to mute him when they kept responding to his nonsense. Apparently, that warrants a perfectly untarnished record of not being reported in SEVEN YEARS that my account has been active. Ridiculous, honestly. I hope that if my account got that kind of punishment that the Janna got perma-banned for that kind of non-stop raging belitting for 45 mins.
