Why can't afk's in ranked get a more severe punishment

We've all had that Katarina that is 1/1 against a Zed and decides to rush tabi's instead of seeker's then proceeds to die 2 times and quits the game because she deals no dmg...It sucks, we all know it does but this person at most will get punished by a leaver buster(maybe a 15-day ban if she does it a lot) yet this is exactly the same punishment that's dealt to people who get dced and then come back, this makes no sense. Ragequitters should get a more severe punishment like in Overwatch as an example, there players who (of their own will) quit the game will have a short ranked match ban and a XP debuff for the rest of the season(1 month in league would probably be enough). This Ranked game match ban would the perfect type of punishment for these types of people, they would still be able to play but it wouldn't hinder other people's competitive experience plus this combined with the XP debuff would really incentivize players to stay in the game even if they are losing. Some of you might be worried that this will affect people who dc do to their internet or electricity going down yet Riot already makes the distinction when a player goes AFK for a large amount of time their champs portrait in the post-game lobby is marked with a cross which typically doesn't happen with people who dc for a short amount so applying different punishments shouldn't be that much harder. This probably won't reach anyone since rioters aren't really active in EUW but I hope you can see the points I'm making, have a good day.

Edit1:grammar.

  1. Because the punishment for any behavior is not going to be "higher" simply because it's a ranked game. If someone has an emergency, it doesn't matter what game mode they're playing in. Shit happens, and people aren't going to be punished harder just because it happened at the "wrong time(TM)".

  2. Overwatch's punishment systems, be it for chat, voice, or gameplay, are absolute shit and should NEVER be used as an example of good systems. There's a reason the game went to shit, and that Overwatch 2 is basically a meme at this point even before it's come out.

  3. The X mark is NOT what you think it is. Players can be detected as leavers regardless of the X mark, and there is no set time. Regardless, you don't even consider people with real life emergencies mid game, or who have computer/other issues that prevent them coming back.

  4. You haven't even seen the same player in your games. The chance that AFK players are having a negative impact on your climb is next to none. Maybe instead of trying to blame/punish others, you should focus on remembering that shit happens and there's honestly no way for you to know they ragequit. Assume the best in people - it will do you wonders in life.

Maybe they should lose double LP. I've had people say "im quitting" around 15 min because the ff doesn't go through or they get tilted. Even though you might be that far behind, you still put the team at a bigger disadvantage when you do that. These quitters just go on to play the next game without any penalty, in my view, which is sad.

Because Riot is too worried about chasing away the very people they fostered by endorsing shit like tyler1 and giving LPP to people like Tarzaned. Now that a ton of people are toxic, they're scared they'll ban too many people and lose players.

I 100% agree. I had situations where I left ranked game but it happens like, maybe, once per 6 months? If I lost like 50LP for quitting I would feel fine with that. Because I deserved it. My team shouldn't be punished for me leaving the match. No matter what is the reason - it's your responsibility not your team. I have many afks in rankeds, silver elo is full of them. I think that people just don't feel any big pressure because "hey we will lose anyway".

Absolutely not.

So imagine this common scenario: 15 minutes in, score is like 20-5, enemy has all the turrets, dragons, and better scaling champions. Early surrender drops, 3/2. And you better believe those 2 people who voted no are the ones flaming at least one person, because they're the exact same people who say "REPORT X for AFK!!".

Why on earth should those other 3 people be expected to not AFK a bit and run the clock a bit, or otherwise not play seriously at this point? People who get mad about AFK are 99% the toxic players. Going AFK is graceful, it's not a rage quit. It's a surrender that should had happened.
