Cyber Bullying on League of Legends - How does it impact you?

It seems like every other game I've played this week someone was bullying another player. My last game, the reason for this thread, I was bullied by a player <Removed by Moderation> . The player died early to the enemy jungle and then proceeded to start flaming the team calling everyone idiots. Then I (supp) recalled in bot lane after leaving a close engagement with only 15hp. At this time their jg, rengar, was at our golems. He started to flame me and the adc again (adc only had like 100hp and was sitting under tower).

As the game proceeded, the name calling and overall abuse only got worse as he proceeded to call me autistic, retarded, an idiot, etc. About half way through the game I just started to feel empty. I lost all my will to play the game and I was fed up for falling into this bullies trap. He just kept pushing and pushing and then suddenly he went silent. You would think the silence would have been good but it wasn't; the silence was only worse. The silence left me sitting there looking at my screen just feeling dead. I had escaped away from studying for my finals for a moment to play some league and now I lack the focus and the desire to study; I am dead inside.

This is more or less the trend that happens every time I play league only this time was so bad that I am now realizing it. I start playing league after my homework is done or at the end of the day and by the time I finish playing league I no longer want to do anything else. Maybe part of this is league, however I normally stop playing league after a troll game or a game where someone flames the team. Is there any correlation? What has your experience been?

I've played league for the last 6-8 years. It was a rare gem when I had to share a computer and it was an escape for me when I went through some hard emotional abuse at home. For a decent stretch of time, I left home and all video games behind as I escaped to south america. When I came back and I struggled to decide what to do with my life, league was there again.

There are always players who call each other out for making mistakes and other players who go to all chat to taunt the other team and that's all fun. The tragedy is when players start crossing lines and mixing up fun with mal-intent. When players start to target other players in team chat and resolve to using language which targets their mental capacity or who say things like "must have taken forever to type that" they go too far.

The sad part about this is that the cycle will never end. There is no way to stop this behavior in an online game where you are teamed up with 4 random people. Personally, I think it would be great if league made a ffa or a 2v2v2v2 game where all teams (or players) had one lane that met in a middle circle much like a plus sign however I doubt riot will read this. I feel this way because I feel that the biggest issue about league is that it requires people to play on a team and players these days just don't have the maturity to play team games online. I agree that it gets better in higher leagues within ranked competition but that's about it. If you play norms, draft or ranked in any bronze tier then you are subject to these players who shoot fiery darts over chat at their teammates.

I forgot where I was going with this so I will end my rant here...

Comments from inferior people do not affect me. Just man up and don't cry because some random person called you bad at the game.

Hey,

I've removed the username from your post. Discussing bullying and how to handle it's affects on the game is fine, but bringing in another player's name only leads to Name and Shame which is a violation of the Board Universal Rules.

If you were bullied by this player, I hope that you reported him after the match. If not, you may still report him via a report ticket. Next time someone is verbally abusing you or other teammates, immediately mute them so that you don't have to see their toxic words and report them after the match is finished.

For someone who went through hard emotional abuse at home youre pretty whiny. Just man up and dont cry about some kid from the internet calling you names. Dont get me wrong, im all against that, but its also not the end of the world. If you really get so upset from being called bad in the internet i would seek help.

While cyber bullying is no way shape or form acceptable, if you're so easily affected by it you probably should not play any type of online competitive games. It happens quite a bit in League but it also exists in every single competitive game I've played since playing Diablo II and Warcraft III back in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

If you’re so severely affected by verbal toxicity from other players, you should mute them as soon as they start acting that way, or even pre-emptively /muteall at the start of every match.

Sooo you get hurt by stranger's words, and instead of muting them at the start, you intentionally expose yourself to more toxicity, and then cry about it. We should feel sry or something? You just made it worse for yourself.

Stop being a drama queen, mute people who 'bully you' online or simply stop playing the game and play either singleplayer games or multiplayer games like Hearthstone.

Yes, it bothers me. Getting bullied by Riot Games every time I click "play". Getting anxious, dropped league for the preseason nearly entirely.
