How to make League ranked less frustrating
We all know how frustrating a ranked game of League can be and it doesn't have to be that way. Especially in Solo/Duo games without AFKs, flamers and inters are rare. Here are some suggestions to help change that.
AFKs and Inters: When someone afks or ints, they should lose almoast all of the LP instead of the teammates who have done nothing to deserve this and they are ultimatly uproportionatly responsible for the teams loss.
E.g. 1 Person AFKs and the persons team loses, so the AFK loses 75 LP and the teammates lose 5 LP each as they still had a small chance of winning (in most elos).
If someone is convicted of inting or rage quitting, they have it coming anyways. No mercy on those.
Questions and Answers:
- Q: What if something important comes up in real life?
- A: Then you either shouldn't have played ranked or it is more important than a huge LP loss.
- Q: What if my internet is out?
- A: If it happens once, the tradeoff is worth, since you're getting less AFKs and if you get one you barly lose LP, so you could make them back more easily.
- Q: What if someone is wrongly accused of inting?
- A: The entry barrier for what's inting is different for each elo and I trust reviewers of the same or higher elo to judge that correctly.
- Q: What about short AFKing?
- A: This is proberbly a mistake and should lead to a smaller LP loss which could even scale with the time spent AFK (execpt if the AFK time is until the end).
- Q: What about afk dodging or AFK farming?
- A: The game chat should probably reflect that and riot can record ingame position as soon as the words AFK appear in chat and save them with the report.
- Q: What if it's a bug with the game (client)?
- A: If you can prove it, then you shouldn't lose the additional LP of the team.
How would this affect ranked? Less AFKs or Inters and less frustration if you get one.
Performance: Performance should matter more since it reflects ones rank more accuratly.
The performance difference could be up to 10 LP so it makes a difference - this would mean:
S + 6 LP A + 4 LP B + 2 LP C - 2 LP D - 4 LP (E - 6 LP which would make the difference 12 LP but why not?)
Questions and Answers:
- Q: What if I have a really bad game? It happens to everyone once in a while.
- A: Your rank should be where you have equally many good as bad games, so it will work itself out.
- Q: What if people just flame more if a kill is stolen? Wouldn't it make league more toxic?
- A: More on flaming later, but it wouldn't since one kill probably wouldn't give you a better rating and there are lots of ways to get a good rating.
How would this affect ranked? If you did well and lost, you would lose less LP, so losing would be less frustrating.
Flaming: Flaming should be punished harder. Every once in a while I get a message along the lines of: "The player you reported has be punished. Most players don't commit a second offence after this." and my question to that is: In what time frame?
I simply don't believe that they never ever flame anymore - there are too many flamers for this to be true.
The punishment should be the honor level sinking with an addition that's coming later. It should start sinking with the smallest violation of the guidelines and should sink more, the more you flame in a game.
Questions and Answers:
- Q: What if someone is wrongly accused of flaming?
- A: The evidence in chat is pretty clear as it is the only thing that should be considered, so that wouldn't be a problem.
How would this affect ranked? There should be less flaming if it is punished harder
Honor level: Honor level should be something that truly reflects ones state of mind when playing.
You shouldn't be able to play ranked with a honor level of 2 or less, since you're just tilting teammates at this point and keep runing games for every other player consistently.
Having honor level 5 should be configured in a way that you get all the keys for the chests you get while playing, so that you don't need to buy them and the honor reward really means something.
Furthermore, honor level shouldn't reset as you are not less of a honorable player just because the new season starts. This also eliminates the problem that comes with getting less keys when leveling up.
Questions and Answers:
- Q: I really struggle with honor level although I never flame. What about me?
- A: Either you aren't as honorable as you think or it's a mistake on riots part - both cases don't mean the system shouldn't be implemented.
How would this affect ranked? There would be less flamers as people know that they couldn't play ranked anymore or would need to buy keys so they get the chests they need.
Note: I completely understand that there are two main reasons why this won't be implemented.
- You want to give players something to grind for so they continue playing the game, but honor level shouldn't be that thing.
- If there is a system where players get equally many chests and keys, they don't need to buy keys which means less money for riot.
There's a problem with 2. though. It would probably result in more honorable players and I think it would bring more players back to league which means more money. I think it's still a net negative in terms of money, but it would mean that there's a friendlier community over all.
Some closing words: Please read and think before you post. If you see a problem after that feel free to post it so we can discuss it.
PS: Also for less frustration: Make a better client! It is slow and buggy. I left champ select once by accident over the last 2 seasons. All the other times it was the clients fault. Not even mentioning the huge delay for some actions, even though I have a better PC than 99% of league players (this is not exaggerated). To a programmer it looks like you didn't use your best people for this client, which is completly understandable from a business standpoint, but the result is bad nonetheless.
