Making Ranked Games not only pair you in games based on mmr, but also champion mastery

Been playing league for a long time now and just started playing ranked in the past year, and I notice a glaring issue with who you're paired with in ranked games. A lot of the time you get players who are playing champs for the first time who may have a grasp on champion counters but don't necessarily always win their lane, and that's because they don't know how to play the champion they're trying to counter with. This becomes a huge issue when you're trying to climb and have a genuine mastery of a few champs. I just want to discuss options to make the matchmaking system a little more fair for people who know how to climb and know that you should only climb with champs you know. This could also be a win win for the smurf issue as well (yes you are screwing over the people entering ranked games with low mastery levels, but they honestly shouldn't be playing ranked in the first place, I didn't start till I felt like I knew all of what my champions could do). I think we should still consider mmr, but before matchmaking, on top of choosing positional roles, you should also choose the champs you wish to play.

I do think this is mainly a low elo issue, but it has potential to bring more people to the game since the matchmaking is a little more fair.

Thoughts?

Champ mastery does not coenside to champ prowess...just how much uve played that champ. Just because you may play someone alot doesn't mean ur good at them necessarily.

Also, say if u have someone whose played someone excessively, and then that champ gets a kit rework...that mastery no longer shows how good they are with said champ

How would this hold up in situations where a person's primary pick got banned and so they are forced pick something with a much lower master?

Or they simply pick a different champion?

All it would do is add additional noise for matchmaking since it can't be sure which champion you may pick when creating the lobby.

This would eliminate any chance to counterpick or get team synergy from picks.

what you ask will make the case worst

because that mean your enemy will be also high in mastery and your allies might still pick a low mastery champion to counter enemy (or their pick get banned)

at least now your enemy might also pick a champion with little idea on how to play him/her/it

So what u pick a champion before you even have a team ... that’s insane

Considering that champ select is after the team making point, matching teams based on mastery would not work at all, as I may be m7 on one champ BUUUUUUUUUUUT i need to play this other one right now... as a support that is how I work, a fair bit. I am m7 sona and soraka, but I also play nami and taric and alistar and janna as healers so if I needed to NOT be raka or sona... id what? Lose my ADC?

I see what you're all saying, but usually you have high mastery with multiple champs. And I'm not saying it should be the way we ultimately decide matchmaking, but it should be considered. And mastery also shows hours played and if you queued up at least five champs that you have a mastery with, then there's a better chance that one of your picks won't get banned, and there's a high chance that at least one of your picks will counter your opponents. Koiyaki I totally get that and I definitely considered that before I made the post, but if mmr is also a factor then that person will be put into matches that are better suited for them. On the rework side, then Riot should reset that persons mastery of that champ...put more work on Riot's side of things lol.
