What's the point of removing ranked rewards like banners?

So in season 8 I had a few 10 game chat bans for some minor negativity. Obviously, that means I'm the worst human being alive and because of few games out of hundreds I didn't deserve ranked rewards.

My question is why does this remove banners and stuff at the end of the season? Is the goal to make it look like I've never been ranked before? Is that your idea of a punishment? To make it look like something never happened when it did? Hell, you can just check op.gg and similar sites and see previous ranks, so removing banners and your stuff from your account seem moot.

The thing that blows my mind though, is the philosophy of history denial. "You didn't conform to how we think you should behave so we're going to pretend you never existed." It actually reminds me of the Islamic State. Smashing idols and stuff because they disagree with your point of view.

Which is hilarious because player behavior has never been a static thing. A common phrase echoed on these forums is "just don't be a dick." However, what qualifies as being a "dick" is not well-defined and in truth can be minor things such as asking someone if they're boosted. Which, to be fair, is a serious problem in this game.

Anyway, I suppose I just don't see the point. I can understand removing things like free skins and so forth if that's what you wanna do. But attempting to remove your "past" in the game is just silly and reeks of some Islamic State-Democratic social justice warrior Antifa shit.

This isn't a government agency or a religion oppressing the people. This is a video game owned by a private organization that allows people to play and has some rules that go along with it. Really, if you don't like the rules, you don't have to keep playing. Nobody is oppressing you.

If I throw a party at my house and the one rule is Absolutely no green socks allowed and i invite you there, you have two choices - to not wear green socks or not show up. A private organization can make whatever rules they want, and you have a choice if you don't agree with them.

When you play Ranked, you're queuing up for a competitive gamemode - and competition comes with the increased demand for sportsmanlike behavior. Honorable conduct goes part and parcel with competition, much as people like to pretend it doesn't, and Riot makes no exception to this.

If you break the rules and demonstrate unsportsmanlike behavior, that should leave a red mark on your account. And that red mark takes the form of stripping your Ranked rewards.

It's not a matter of trying to make it look like something never happened - it's denying you the prestige because you showed you didn't deserve it - you weren't honorable.

The thing that blows my mind though, is the philosophy of history denial.

It's not history denial. It'd be history denial if they retroactively altered your Ranked matches to appear as Normals in your Match History - it's reward denial.

Yeah, ranked rewards should be something you earn because of skill. So it shouldn't be removed because of behavior, that just makes no sense.

Not being a dick means that you should stop fuming on your fellow players in chat. It's not really hard to define. You can disagree with Riot's design philosophy, but toxicity and insults should not be tolerated.

By the way, last time i checked, people weren't persecuted in real life because they broke rules in League. Besides, your past rank doesn't matter that much, right? If you fight your way up the ladder now, you should be proud of what you accomplished currently.

History denial? Don’t make me laugh, I’m at work.

It’s simple: misbehavior results in loss of privileges. Same rules you’ve hopefully operated under since childhood.

We are teaching you real life skills. By containing your emotions in a video game and staying cordial and productive in a conversation among people you have to work with for success you will be able to manage others using logical explanation and insightful discussion techniques, giving you the ability to adequately lead conference calls, project meetings, and other places of high supervisory positioning.
