Don't Bash Your Supports

To begin, until recently I was an Ashe main. She was fun, it was usually easy unless I got a particularly bad match up, and I was always polite to my support (doing emotes or whatnot in response to saves). So when I started doing support, I was pretty annoyed at how bad other ADCs treat their supports.

I got into Morgana support, which is pretty fun. She can get mana hungry in prolonged fights, so having items can help tremendously.

What isn't fun is when the ADCs (who seem to mostly be Miss Fortunes who do this) spam ping ? and ! whenever I take a few CS. Contrary to popular belief, supports do need gold too. It's not like I was last hitting minions they were bringing down, I just auto attack or drop soil to clear the waves ASAP (I keep soil at its level 1 state mainly to take down minions and trigger Manaflow Rune and Frostfang, so if you cant beat that low damage you need to work on your timing anyway).

I've had an Akali say "I can't work with this Morg" because I took 2 kills, neither of which she was close to (nor that she had marked). This was after I helped her secure 3 kills with skillshot Dark Bindings. She kept constantly pushing for surrender and talking in chat, instead of helping, leaving me to defend bot with 2, sometimes 3 if jungler came in, against me.

~~To the surrender happy ADCs, just because you can't faceroll all the time doesn't mean we lose. Calm down. ~~

Of course, near the end of the game, I had already saved their butts 3+ times (usually more if they intend to charge headfirst into death), gotta love that shield anti-CC, they tell me "gg morg!" or "ty morg!" when earlier they tell me to uninstall. I've even had a few friend requests from the people who tell me to shred my computer because I'll never be any good just a few minutes earlier.

Anyway, the point of the post is to spread awareness, in an attempt to reduce some of the rampant toxicity.

Just because your supports occasionally take CS or a kill, it doesn't mean they're trying to spike you out and leave you to starve. We are literally building our sets to support you. Don't get all melodramatic because you can't build your super duper awesome set 10 seconds earlier, when we continually save you, and give you kills you wouldn't otherwise be able to get.

League is a team game. We're in it together and the goal is to take out the Nexus, not to get the best KD ratio (since no one seems to care about Assists, and will flame a Sona for going 2/3 when she went 2/3/27).

What are your thoughts on this? Do you get mad at your supports, or do you try to understand? Do you deal with ADCs constantly acting like you're only there to be a ward-slave, or do you meet some cool Ashes and Fortunes? Any interesting stories?

(P.S. I know not every support who takes CS is trying their best to help you, but you get trolls in every lane at some point. It's not like we're Teemo. If they are farming out from under you, that's not cool. If they're autoattacking and you can't beat them to it, you need to work on your timing.)

Never be afraid to take the kill as a support. It's 10 times better than an ability coming up and then they escape. A kill is not just the gold, it's time the enemy can't farm or gain XP. Also if someone starts raging or pinging you about it, just mute them. It's better for your mental if you focus on the game instead of an entitled player being antagonistic.

This again...

You played adc, you know it's not the role, it's the whole botlane.

Supports are just as toxic as adc in my experience. You have 2 people who need to work together and when you don't match it's really a lost Lane.

Sure take a kill if you actually took part in it. Not just that last hit Morgan q or something. And sure you might have put pool there no, you helped so it's ok. Going 0/0/9 on any carry is tilting.

Cs is for the adc, but you're better than the turret. So if they have no way of taking it, take it. Otherwise don't. The pool does low damage, sure but it's still annoying to some. I personally can't stand it as it's not under my control. If your adc doesn't like it, maybe just stop. Especially when you wanna setup double taps as mf.

I play both roles, I don't expect the other person to be leashed to me the whole game and expect the same from them. But we're stuck with each other in Lane so don't be a dumbass.

It depends. No-one should flame ever, but you might be causing problems.

I'm not going to assume you're level 16- I'm assuming this is a forum account, and that your MMR is probrably quite average. If your MMR is quite average, tho, you still could easily have poor wave manipulation. If your wave is near your tower, it's a lot easier to kill the enemy lane, and a lot harder to kill you. Watch some youtube about freezing if this sounds right.

As for MF's flaming you, though... she wants a minion infront of the enemy that is either killable by a double-up, and E-double-up or an auto-double-up. If MFs specifically you seem to upset, maybe you're interfering with this?

And supports should try at all costs to not take CS, our items are cheap. This includes in mid/lategame. If a wave is going to push into your tower, remove just enough minions and call your adc down to CS (then go ward so they can extend a bit further). There's nothing worse for an adc than shoving all the lanes too far for them to safely access. If you both have to go teamfight soon instead or you know she can't make it, set up a slowpush and go help.

the main problem i can see with this post is you say you cs with an ap support that uses item 3092. when i support i also cs when my adc is out lane, but if i have that i usually want to wait until after my quest is done so that way i don't delay my vision from coming online

As a support main, it's hard for me to understand why you would take cs if your adc is there; you have a gold income item. I'm also not sure why you would bristle at an adc who asks you not to hit minions bc it's messing with their last-hitting - they may not be great adcs but you should actually support them in a way that is helpful rather than just saying "they should be better."

That said, I agree that a lot of adcs tend to complain about their supports way too much when it's clear we are just doing our best to help. Securing a kill is not the same as a ks, and last-hitting under turret when the adc is not there is not the same as stealing cs. Don't get me started about overly aggressive adcs who blame their supports when they overextend and die, especially when they don't understand ability cooldowns or other limitations. "??? HEAL ME" I did heal you, but the enemy did enough damage to kill you anyway. "??? SHIELD ME" I shielded you earlier in the fight and it's on a 12 second cooldown. smh

If My adc bashes me, I simply stop healing them. I WILL take thier cs (they have no direct claim over it anyways) I stop trying to save them and build for myself If you are so arrogant and full of yourself you think you have free reign to degrade and insult your supports, Then you are too good to need a support. And if you lose...well then thats on you. I mean if you want to go on about how you are "too good for this team" then you deserve the loss.

take the kills not the cs.

Another support that doesn't know the rules.

  1. It's always the support's fault.
  2. Jungler is just another support.

Just accept these rules and move on.
