Player Behaviors
Hello!
TLDR: BE NICE TO PEOPLE!
This thread will probably never be seen by more than myself but i feel as if a discussion needs to be had with regards to the problem within the behavior of players within the community.
Everyone already knows that players, no online users as a whole are much more confident behind a keyboard that they probably wouldn't say in a real world setting. Just scrolling down the player behavior and moderation page here in the forums there are more threads one page 1 to do with negative player behavior than i can count on both of my hands. THAT'S PAGE 1.
So your probably thinking:
But Riot have implemented a new reporting system and moderation system to punish and reward players through their behavior they exhibit, what more do you want them to do? what do you want them to change?
Good questions. Actually TBH i don't have any new answers just trying to raise a perspective.
Firstly, please understand that I'm not targeting Riot or and game maker for that matter and instead I'm targeting: You, the team you get paired with, the other team, or to be much more specific, anyone who uses a computer to Bully, Harras and abuse another person online.
Secondly, I'm not saying EVERYONE has taken part in this behavior, but I'm sure the % of users with any participation is quite high. I'm even sure I've caught myself acting irradically and of course i then apologized to the recipients.
What's the point?
Why do people think its an acceptable way to behave? What can we do to Solve/fix/band-aid/workaround this social problem. its not a GAME related problem its a PEOPLE related problem.
Now before you reply in the comments section, Don't tell me that the world is just like that and i should drink a cup of cement and harden up because its not going to change. This will not change unless there is a cultural shift of values and behaviors. I'm not interested in: just deal with it, people are horrible its their nature, who cares i just mute everyone.
COP OUTS. NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
If i was at work, and I told my co worker because they stole my pen that i hoped they had cancer, and that they were the cancer of the whole office and that they should just go and die in front of 8 other people, what do you think would happen?
- Would i get moved to another office and counselled? If I'm lucky. I'd more than likely be FIRED + the company would then have to go through a whole harassment claim for the individual that has now a psychological problem and can't come back to work.
I'm sure all of you at some point would have read something similar but unfortunately probably much worse than the example I've written above.
Re-iterating my point, Why DO people think its OK to say those things to people? i personally think people KNOW it's wrong but just like speeding or J-walking or parking for too long they do it anyway because its convenient to what they want at the time regardless of who it affects and the consequences that follow. I know it sounds harsh but i think that a system should be in place whereby if your caught saying and "bad" words not just cursive, you should be instantly chat restricted and warned with suspension. I don't know how someone would implement that but that's not my job and I'm sure there's someone out there who knows more about that kinda thing than me.
Lastly, should we tighten then system to be much more harsh in its penalties and detection maybe teamwork and game based dialog might actually increase your chances of winning a game of League of Legends or whatever game you play.
Thank you for reading.
PLEASE BE NICE TO PEOPLE!
