@Riot Tantram - Why hasn't the option to disable chat been implemented?

So lets start with this.

Every game has flaming/negative chat going on in it. Generally always on whatever team is currently losing. The blame game starts and people just talk crap from this point on. To me it is whatever, and apart of video games on the internet, mostly comical as well.

But for others, who act like they are offended, just use the report system and move on to the next game.

So you punish players for using profanity in game, but yet, you have a chat filter to prevent players who don't wanna see that in chat already? So why punish for that? You even punish players who just tell other players they are bad.

You have the option in game to disable /all chat, so why can't you just have an option to disable chat all together? If this is the majority of reasoning behind players being punished, because for whatever reason smack talk in a game is now overly used as "toxic" Why waste man power and time punishing players for something so pointless anyways?

Pings are the only thing that are needed to communicate effectively in game. So why not just remove chat all together, or If you think its useful, just punish players by permanent chat suspension all together so they can no longer chat with teammates and only ping.

I mean you can literally go in a game, and start telling someone in a nice way, who to focus, or what to do on their champ etc....And you know the response that generally follows? Stfu, don't tell me how to play, or some other random blurb. Nothing matters. It's all pointless. Chat in it's entirety just creates the ability for smacktalk and "toxic" behavior as you all refer to it.

The majority of all smacktalk comes in the after game lobby. That is the heaviest blame game moment, But yet you add that into the chat list for the report system? Why, it wasn't during the game? It had no effect on anything while the game was going, but yet you will punish for it.

I personally get punished for telling people they are bad, and using profanity at the same time. I know I do this. Do I think thats worth banning someone ? Heck no. I am not out their using racism or wishing death upon people etc, but ooo man, say "you're F*ing Trash to someone, and its instantly considered Toxic.

I would seriously like to have the ability to disable chat all together, I don't wanna sit there and mute people, or drag my dumb chat window off the screen etc. I just don't wanna ever have the ability to type in game. That is the only thing I get punished for anyways, So why not just let me not type at all, and all problems are forever solved. I've asked so many times, just permanently mute my account. You'd never see another report again, Heck if you just made that an option, The majority of all tickets you most likely get for chat related issues would be gone. I would like this to seriously be considered. I don't feel banning players from the game solves anything.

They have several actually. They're called "Not pressing the enter key", "Self control", and "Acting like a mature person".

Put a little sticky note on the bottom left of your screen that says "DON'T READ THIS". You can also minimize the chat box to where you can't read it.

just /mute all at the start of the game.

you won't even notice that the chat is there then

Having a steady supply of banned players ensures the new players will have a quick que.

The chat box can be used for more than just flaming your teammates and hate speech. Disabling chat could actually hurt your teams chance of success. Not everything can be communicated through pings. Constructive feedback from teammates and planning the next move for instance.

Instead of asking for Riot to hold your hand and allow you to make yourself essentially a deaf mute, why not take the initiative and use some self control?

Riot did try something like this a few years ago with escalating chat restrictions. In this system particularly problem players would just constantly receive chat restrictions after chat restrictions, with some of them feeling like they'd never be able to work them off. What happened was that for the players who couldn't effectively be a jerk in the chat, they just switched to other more subtle ways of ruining other peoples experiences, such as intentional feeding, gameplay trolling and things of that nature; basically things that are much harder to detect and prove than the simple chat based offenses.

That's why this new system (the Instant Feedback System) is in place, to remove the more problem players faster and encourage players to actually work on fixing their behavior rather than just putting it off for however long they want. it's also why they won't implement a self-mute system any time soon, as the costs would just outweigh the benefits.

At the end of the day though it's up to you to decide what you value more: your account and everything on it or just being a jerk to other players and ruining their games just for the heck of it.
