League of Legends and Internet
Picture with me: You load into a game. You've finished your drafts, and your team looks pretty good. The game goes into the loading screen, flairing all of the champions on screen. You wait for the game to begin. However, you notice that one of your carries is taking a while to load in. That's alright, you think to yourself, maybe they're having an issue. It should be fixed soon. It isn't. You wait, and you wait, and you wait, but you just can't load in. Their percentage creeps up slowly, finally reaching 100%. After 10+ minutes of waiting, you finally load onto Summoner's Rift. The player that took a while is clearly not afk, and everyone moves to their lane. Although they're moving, something is clearly wrong. They're being hit by easily avoidable or obvious CC, their last hitting is extremely off, and when junglers arrive, they take no measurements to escape or assist. After 3, 4, 5 deaths in a row before 10 minutes, their carries are getting too far ahead and putting pressure into other lanes. It's a lost game.
While I understand that everyone should be able to play if they want, and I'm certainly not policing anyone's behavior, but those who have shoddy internet should be more considerate towards other players. If you know your ping will be very high, playing bots not only evens the playing field for you (low level bots vs lagging player), but it also prevents 4 other players from wasting a game by getting stomped by their fed laner. I understand that not everyone can afford high speed internet, but that doesn't mean that every other teammate one has should have to deal with the repercussions of that. Rather than saying "Only MY fun matters, I don't care how badly other players suffer, I'll do what I want to do, screw everyone else", lagging players should say "My internet isn't great. Maybe I'll play some bots or private matches until I can figure out what the issue is." It's an issue of common courtesy. You're not the only player in the game, and ruining the game for 4 other people because of an easily avoidable issue should not be treated as a "Meh" problem.
