10 Game Chat Restriction

I'm a little confused lately about the bans and procedures behind some behavior in this game.

Earlier this morning I had several bad, bad matches in a row. Which definitely affected my playstyle, but I didn't flame anyone. Didn't blame anyone.

After about four or five bad matches, I had a mid laner consistently flame and talk ish on me, but not anyone else. They kept saying I was intentionally feeding and I had so many deaths, although our support, jungler, and the enemy ADC had the same # of deaths, or very close... Obviously they said many more things and way worse things, but they were consistently I mean CONSISTENTLY spamming messages in my direction.

This player harassed me more than anyone else in my entire time of playing League. I'm not crying about it, but I'm just saying. Because of the consistently bad game experiences, I started responding to this player.

I don't know if I'm "allowed" to copy and paste the text I got in my "10 game chat restriction" Message. But I never cursed at them. I didn't use slurs. I didn't use vulgarities to describe them. I was simply replying to their hate with comments in what maybe was a passive aggressive manner, but that was my way of defending myself. Like very sarcastic, dry, "oh my god you're hurting my feelings so much, jk you're not" type of replies...

I am confused why I received a ban. Not one message in the log I received is anything worth reporting ...

Are we just not supposed to react to obnoxious trolls? I mean, if that's what keeps me in the game... I can mute them... but I should have the option of doing what most people in life do and defend myself if I need to, without worrying that THE TROLL will further troll me by reporting me.

I just came off of 2 chat bans. If you got em, you earned em.

You can copy and paste logs here if you want, it is allowed.

Muting them is defending yourself. Responding with intent to strike back is retaliation. The two are different. Be careful.

It's encouraged, actually. Then the people here can point out what the system didn't like in your chat.

Apparently, the system can detect passive aggressive, and counts it as negative behavior.

Muting and reporting is a way of defending yourself. Retaliating is not. Retaliating just adds fuel to the fire, and makes the situation worse for the remaining players.

I received my first chat restriction after seven years of playing this game. My top-laner blew his flash to take my blue buff and insta-tp'd top lane on top of a minion and died instantly to 3 people who were standing on top of the minion. I said "are you fucking serious...", and that was a 10-day chat restriction simply for not muting him. He didn't even say anything, so muting wouldn't have done anything to begin with. I put in a support ticket and was told responding to harassment is punishable. I stopped playing that day.

My reason for discontinuing play on League of Legends is for that reason. Riot expects you to make the best decision every single time when dealing with harassment. Responding to someone, and asking if they're seriously trolling isn't negative, but the problem is that it isn't the absolute best decision you could have made. Typically you should get honored for making the best decision, but not punished if you don't. You should only be punished when you make the worst decision. Basically, I believe that decisions that aren't always the best aren't always the worst, too.

So basically, if what you said was a negative statement, you're going to get punished, but what I disagree with is that you'll get the same punishment for saying something neutral, not negative as well. By "neutral", I mean saying something like I said. This ends up making everyone feel like they either have to make the perfect decision every time, or be punished. Forget that you made a decision that was less-favorable, but wasn't negative, you're still getting punished. If I play at all anymore it's an occasional ARAM or a Co-op vs AI game for my win of the day and I close the game for the rest of the day. I don't play competitively, and I don't play Summoner's Rift or TT ever. I don't like Riot's idea of a "team game", where one person can't carry you, but they can lose you the game. I find as I get older I care less about competitive games and just want to enjoy myself for a bit when I'm not working on something. League will soon get the full axe from me, it's just a matter of time.

I guess my main confusion and my main point is...

If I was reported in this case and received a chat log, that means Riot probably saw the other player who was harassing me.

You would think it would take into account that I was being flamed. Unless it simply reads My messages in an isolated format and no one looks into the actual context. Which would (unfortunately) explain this crappy situation.

That sucks. Post your logs and we'll see what was toxic. If it was passive-aggressive stuff, you probably got multiple chat logs, as they don't usually punish a 10-day chat ban based on one bad game.

If you don't think you were toxic, then you could send in a support ticket, and they'll usually identify the exact phrases that appeared toxic to the system. If there aren't any such messages, a false positive triggered and they'll lift your ban.

Regardless, I have to give you credit for being more civilized than 90% of the other posters that post about their bans, so have an upvote for visibility.
