One player's idea to deal with mischief-makers
I have an idea to alleviate some of the problem with regard to mischief-making players.
I encounter these players too, and they are frustrating to me at times. But, I don't like to yammer and complain, so my idea is to set up a simple system in the game launcher.
This idea for a system, instead of relying on reports or on a tribunal in order to work, enables the community to sort out itself.
The idea in my head is to put a new button in the post-game chat window, alongside the "befriend", "gift", "commend", and "report" buttons.
The new button would be, in effect, a so-called "reject" button.
I suppose that's pretty self-explanatory, but what it could do, is achieve the success by putting a bit of power back into the hands of the playerbase.
Rather than relying on somebody "above" them to decide who receives punishment for enjoyment-obstructing behaviour, this button would allow the playerbase itself to determine who gets ousted from the community.
It achieves this by severing the ability of the "rejected" player to ever again be matched against the player who "rejects" them.
This guarantees a certain small measure of the desired effect, because it enables players to have a modicum of control over the determination of who they are matched against in future games - even though the noticeable positive effect would take time to build toward.
But, over a broader time-frame, it also means that players who are repeat mischief-makers, could eventually become rejected by whole portions of the League community - making them into outcasts essentially whose only match-partners left are like-minded mischief-makers.
This sounds harsh, but actually it is not an unfair punishment, since through their selfish actions they are already massively damaging the whole community without a single iota of remorse.
Therefore, the punishment of being "rejected" gradually from even the entire League community is not an unfair punishment, but is actually a fair and moderate one.
And, perhaps once they have demonstrated for a long time that they are no longer up to causing mischief, then their "strikes" could be revoked and so they could be allowed to join the rest of the community of responsible players.
Well, there's an idea - one which works by achieving the following which is repeated for the sake of clarity and organisation:
- It enables the playerbase to govern itself in a small, reasonable measure.
- It enables the players themselves to dictate who they are matched up against in future matches.
- It gradually punishes mischief-makers in an extensively more noticeable form over time, while simultaneously making the gaming experience gradually better and better for the players who are decent, fair, and honourable.
Another way of expressing point #3 is:
Over a longer time-frame, it results in mischief-makers being increasingly paired with like-minded players, while simultaneously making it so that, gradually, more and more positive, game-enriching players are able to be more consistently matched against each other.
