Perma bans in league

I was recently perma banned from my league of legends with 750 dollars worth of skins for arguing with a guy who was flaming our bot lane and me (top lane) Toxic behavior is wrong, and fanning flames as i did doesn't help a situation. My question is: should riot be barring people from the game for simply what they type? I understand cheating at the game or griefing, that makes the game unplayable, But permanent expulsion for swearing at a person? What do you guys think?

I submitted a loooong ticket to Riot on my thoughts on the matter: It'd be cool to get your opinions on this as well "This is going to be long, please bear with me. My account has been perma banned for getting in an heated argument with another player during a match. 755 dollars and countless hours on League of Legends revoked from me over an argument. This punishment is not commensurate with the wrong done at all, not even close. I'm not trying to justify being toxic on league at all. No one likes it. What I am challenging are Riots methods of combating toxicity within the community. I'll break down my concerns in sections

1.Trash talking =/= Permaban Talking trash in a video game is never grounds for a perma ban. Aside from hate speech used for hateful purposes* I feel all speech is fair. If Riot is seriously so concerned though about regulating how people are communicating, the max ban for this offense should be permanent chat restrictions, not an entire ban from the game.

*EXAMPLES: A male chauvinist calling a woman a bitch because she's a woman vs. calling someone a bitch because they're a coward. A racist using the N word out of hate vs. a friend using the N word as a term of endearment (Words are only tools for expression. words themselves are neither good or bad, what's important is what the user is using them to express.. negative or otherwise)

2.Ban Bots It takes less than 5 min after a match for me to be perma banned, but up to 24 hours or more to receive a response from riot via email or ticket request. This means bots programmed to look for curse words and slurs are reading through the chat logs of a reported person, and banning them when an excess of these words are found. while quick and efficient, this shoot first ask questions later policy is extremely frustrating because it's impersonal and inhuman. As mentioned before words are merely tools used to express emotion. words do not hold weight, it's the emotion behind them. a bot can never differentiate or make judgement calls in that respect. a bot cannot read context or tone which is always important because human interactions are never black and white.. which brings me to my next concern.

3.Only text communication 93 percent of our communication is non verbal. only 7 percent of communication is what we say (again...words don't matter). With this in mind, why is it Riot only allows their players to communicate through typing? Every other major competitive game understands this: Verbal communication is superior to text communication in every way while gaming. Not only is it more efficient, but it's also effective for combating toxicity. Text only communication forces us to imagine what tone a person is using when they type to us. If a teammate tells us "cs better!" we don't know if they're saying this with anger, excitement, in a cheering fashion, frustrated etc. we just don't know. This forces the recipient to guess what tone is being used.... and he likely come to a conclusion based on what mood he's in. I've personally seen plenty of arguments on league start like this... just because there's no tone to the comment Another reason why speech is better for combating toxicity is people are less likely to say the things they are willing to type. It's VERY well known people create personas behind the keyboard and will type things that would never come out of their own mouths. when you take this shield away, these cyber bully keyboard warriors crumble. My biggest concern is Riot never will remove this shield for these trolls because the text based system is easier to police. I believe Riot hasn't added voice chat to league because then they'd be forced to have an actual person deal with reports, and they'd rather just have bots auto ban people. Doubling down on this broken system.

4.Zero consistency I've only recently started playing league about 3 weeks ago after taking several months off. Since I came back I've been receiving honor regularly and key fragments from Riot every time i log in with a message something akin to "Thanks for keeping it honorable" I'm not a toxic person. I do far more up building of people in this community than i do belittling. I've had teammates who start the game flaming, and turn around and apologize and work together just because i ask them if they're okay. (which again isn't easy to come across as truly sympathetic with text only chat...). But people respond to being treated like humans. Imagine if I had just kept silent and reported him after the game like Riot suggests. Imagine he had received a ban instead because of his bad day, is that kind of treatment going to make him BETTER or BITTER? the system that's in place doesn't keep score of the good deeds. it gives us thumbs up in the forms of honor and key fragments over many games, but one slip up and it slaps us in the face with bans. And as the system is now. It doesn't forget your past mistakes. This is the 2nd ticket i submitted. I would have typed this all on the first one but i cant access the ticket for whatever reason. The last employee who responded to me told me when i received my 2 weeks suspension it had said my next punishment would be a perma ban. I don't remember WHEN i received my last punishment, much less what it said. If ample time of good behavior is displayed more lenience should be shown on behalf of the player. Dr. Lyte acknowledged there will never be a point when there is no toxicity in League. That's because they're will always be someone having a bad day. And they will let it effect they're play and speech. but that doesn't make them bad people who need to be barred from the game. The ban system needs to look and ban for consistent of toxic behavior. not just instances."

Riot's view is that it would be wrong for them to continue to let you ruin the game for other players. You were warned about your negative behavior, you admit it was wrong, yet you still didn't improve. How many games should someone be allowed to make less fun for others before they are told enough? Especially after they're given a stern final warning that says stop (with the 14 day ban).

Sorry I can't bring better news, but Riot gives people as many chances as they're comfortable giving right now.

755 dollars and countless hours on League of Legends revoked from me over an argument

The amount of money you spend is irrelevant.

Talking trash in a video game is never grounds for a perma ban.

[..] in your opinion. Also I'd really love to see your actual chat logs. You got 2 chat restrictions, a 14 day ban and now a permanent ban. I am convinced you did way more than trash talking.

With this in mind, why is it Riot only allows their players to communicate through typing?

Ping.

yes a copy and paste..... but you are asking the same question regarding verbal abuse being rude , reacting to something in the game etc etc. so its relavant

An unknown % of players out of the literally millions that play get though the entire season dealing with exactly the same solo que, same intentionally disruptive rule breaking players , the same non meta picks the same everything and still never get a warning and still get their champ/ ward skins at the end of the season.

If a player can't emotionally handle losing a game, even one lost by legitimate rule breakers, and chooses not to mute the verbally abusive ones without responding that is the fault of the player not the game , not riot , not ranked .. the player.

No matter what game mode your in certain things just are not allowed

If you are getting stressed out over a video game even ranked that is your issue according to Riot you have no right to bring into into the game in any ways shape or forum

In other words you still according to Riots behavioral policy you have no right to

  • be verbally abusive/ verbally offesive
  • react or "defend yourself" against others being verbally abusive
  • chastise those legitimately breaking the rules
  • Chastise those who you don't agree with
  • complain about anything
  • Rant about any personal grievance in the game
  • giving any type of negative commentary regarding whats happening in the game
  • Doing any of the above can lead to various punishments including permaban's

So yes if someone is saying the most vile insults to you ever spoken,

the proper action according to Riot is mute and report without any response including " report x or i'm muting you"

If any amount of people are breaking every game play rule in the book

The proper action according to Riot is ignore them don't respond with anything -- even "report x"

Neither of those rules are "impossible" or "high standard"

yes you might lose a match and some lP if in ranked its still not a sersiose life or death situation if you do.

and really---

Which is the best coarse of action if you don't want to be punished given Riots current policy?

1 Not reacting or responding in any way shape or form and losing a match and some Lp ...which really has no "real value" and can eventually be replaced

2 Reacting, "defending yourself", "sarcastic " responses, chastising rule breakers or simply just complaining about think you don't like in game and risking losing your entire account that does have monetary value? As I said before the safest option is in other words if you cant say anything positive ..without being sarcastic about it .. don't say anything at all.

If you pick option 2 its inevitable that you will eventually end up permabanned

Also if you are having such an adverse reaction If you don't like the solo que environment for any reason as much as you are describing in your posts then stop playing in solo que and just play with pre-made teams you will probably have a much less stressful and more rewarding experience

IB4 I cant play with premades don't have enough contacts .....that is not an excuse to act against Riots code of behavioral conduct.

really just consider this ...in the end you reap what you sow and "blame " for that is solely on the person you see in the mirror

also relevant to your "communication" topic

  • if you want a "serious team"

  • if you want team that plays like their lives depend on it .

  • If you want to play meta

  • if you want to have a coordinated team that communicates the way a pre made or pro team does.

  • Again simple solution

  • stop playing with random people if it s stressing you out

If you go into solo que expecting that it will have the same cohesiveness and team play as a premade there is your problem

I rare ever say or reply to anything in chat at most i send pings but I don't always respond to pings sent either, personally the only reason I don't "mute all" at the beginning of a ranked match is so I can do my part in cleaning up the community and reporting those who break the chat behavioral policy

No they should not permaban people for chat offenses. But meh... i think its funny. The internet culture biting people in the ass... its hilarious. Everyone thinks its okay to be an abhorrent piece of shit because of anonymity, and now theyre getting kicked from the game, just like they would be kicked out of a business in real life if they talked like that. Or they would get their faces smashed in. No immunity here and i find it hilarious xD (on principle, i think its wrong though. But since i never had it in me to throw integrity out the window just because im on the internet, it doesnt really affect me so i just enjoy seeing entitled brainwashed kids who grew up on the internet get checked HARD)

I think Rito should be banning people for swearing in the chat. After all the is a goddamn mute button yet there isnt a kick button in the game. And perma banning people who are actually putting money into your game is just stupid. Just do like overwatch and put mute bans on them so they cant use chat and it will be all good...

Yeah, simply beacause other people don't have to put up with whatever chemical imbalance causes people to lash out, but more importantly, because you agreed upon it when creating your account (it's in the rules that everyone skips).
