My top laner just left his 17th game in 30 days. Does leaverbuster even work?
If it is working, how is this even possible?

If you're talking about the top lane person in your current game that you're playing, they have a 49% win rate over roughly 30 days (83 games).
I'm extremely skeptical that they could have 17 leaves and still maintain a 49% win rate. Where did you get this information while you were still playing a game with them?
leaverbuster doesnt prevent you from leaving. it makes it so that you have to wait longer before youre able to enter a Q. but other than that? if you have no problem with waiting 20min before entering a Q, you can leave every game forever.
i've HEARD of ONE case where someone got banned for massive afking. HEARD of it. never saw this reddit post, never saw that confirmed.
I think youre exaggerating a bit and falling to the bias of "if you want to find something, you will find it", where you interpret things to support a pre existing notion. Like you think he AFKs all the time, so when you research it, you count every little thing as an afk, even though it doesnt necessarily mean that. As AeroWaffle said, theres like 5 or 6 games that are suspect. But you came up with 17?! Damn. Huge difference. How did that happen? Are you both falling to the bias? Is it evidence that you dont really know?
Anyways, that sucks. Hopefully he gets a fat suspension at some point, if he is a habitual leaver. That shit aint cool.
The first versions of LB did have suspension penalties. 1-, 3-, 7-, and 14-day bans IIRC. I think some extreme cases were manually reviewed and issued permas.
They ended that and moved to low priority queues due to players just moving over to alt accounts and repeating the cycle.
Wait how can you tell he's leaving all these games? Does op.gg say it?
