Report those who do false reporting!

Hello Riot Games,

Please consider what I have to say! It's really lame that the first person who says "report X Player" everyone from the enemy team would instantly say "ok reported"; without even asking what they did wrong. I told my friends this and not surprisingly they didn't believe me except a few who experience the same.

So we queued up as 5 in normals and we told 1 of us to type in all chat to "report X player". As I guessed they said "ok" or "sure" without even asking for a reason. We told them we were doing an experiment and they said fine once they realized we were all pre-made. We did this with 20 games over a time period of 3 months. and out of those 20 games 16 people said "ok" to the ban without even asking. Heck even when they asked and they heard the persons reason they wouldn't even ask others on the team to see if it was true. So what I was hoping for was for people who falsely accuse and report others for just reporting them without hearing the full story, i think they should be dealt with. I understand there is the Tribunal who reviews the reports and game, however most of the time I have seen from experience they can be quite biased at times just following the majority of bans!

I honestly think the report button is taken way too lightly since It has the potential to terminate many loyal players accounts! I've seen it happen to random people I've played with or against. It's really shocking at times, and the poor kid is scratching his head thinking what the heck did he do. So please take into consideration the following:

  1. Apply a firm punishment for players who abuse the report button without prior or post knowledge of who is being reported and what
  2. If multiple instances of these occur (30+) they can no longer report.
  3. Upgrade the tribunal to see both sides of the story on a report. For example if Player 1 reports (giving his argument on why that player needs a ban) Player 2 is given an instant message showing that they have been reported by a player(s) in the previous game (without giving their name), in which there reasons are shown. Player 2 then follows up writing his side of the argument on why it is a false accusation/their side of the story.

From my point of view the Tribunal needs more "trialing" so to speak when it comes to player punishment and moderation! It should not be taken lightly, however should always be followed up by a swift and upheld punishment. I'm not trying to defend toxic players, but those who fall victimsummoner 21 to false reporting. I hope these ideas will catch the eyesitem 3187 of Riot. If these ideas seem like they could be abused please leave a comment below so I can adjust this post.

Thank you everyone! Happy holidays!

False reporting lowers to value of their reports, and report calling (or threatening to report) is a punishable offense. Extreme abuse of making false reports apparently is punishable, though I've never heard of anyone being punished for it.

Apply a firm punishment for players who abuse the report button without prior or post knowledge of who is being reported and what

How are you going to determine without a doubt whether they have knowledge of the offense being reported or not? There are certainly some circumstances where it's obvious the person wouldn't know (such as Team B reporting Team A for something they said in private team chat), but there are those where it is not so readily apparent if they know the offense occurred (such as a player seeing an enemy blowing his ult and summoners for absolutely no reason all by himself all game).

If multiple instances of these occur (30+) they can no longer report.

Reporting should not ever be discouraged by threat of punishment. Losing report value as a "punishment" is not visible to the players for a reason. If you threaten people that their reports may result in them being punished they will be more likely to let legitimate offense slide, which directly increases that behavior in the community. I don't see anything wrong with silently lowering the report value of abusers. Look at reports as a form of voting; the community votes what kind of behavior should be punished by reporting it. If the community is largely against it and someone keeps doing it they get punished.

The Instant Feedback System is designed entirely around weeding out false reports. Manual review of every toxic player making excuses on why they think they shouldn't be punished is a huge waste of time. I think you both undervalue the efficiency of the IFS and don't understand how many reports go out every day in such a huge community. Fringe cases can be (and are) manually reviewed, but the vast majority of the time Riot agrees with the judgement of the automated system.

It's possibly Riot may be able to focus on player behavior systems (like a new Tribunal and Honor Initiative) after they are done with the client update.
