What's GG worth nowadays?

An honest question from a player that observes other players on a daily basis.

The shortcut stands for Good Game, but ironically, only the people on the winning team write GG. About 5% of players I played against or with wrote GG when they were on the losing team and I find that a bit funny if we consider that it's supposed to be "good etiquette". Bullshit if you ask me. If it was a matter of well behavior, wouldn't they theoretically say GG whether they win or lose?

Just my 2 cents of the day. I think the respectful term GG is defiled by people that only care to write GG if they win. They turn this etiquette into a bashful "Fuck you" by refusing to congratulate enemy teams for winning, but spamming the whole chatlog with GG, EZ and WP when they win.

Move along folks, just an autist venting on the forums Amumu

GG isn't a measure of the skills presented in a match. It's the mark of diplomacy that this games sorely lacks.

GG says I'm mature enough to thank people for the experience, and hope that they feel the same. The post-game numbers measure skill. It doesn't measure civility. It's those soft skills like diplomacy that create a community. And if you're saying stuff other than positive things AFTER a match, you need to revaluate your world view. The internet has enough tough guys.

When it's a 4v5 or similar event BG WP.

About 1 in 20 games I play are actually a GG.

GG: a game that is challenging to both sides and a constant struggle for dominance, when both teams feel anyone can win and the outcome is a complete mystery

GG should be GO for game over

I'll only say "GG" if it really was a "Good Game". After all, if there was a lot of toxicity, it was a rofl stomp or it was a 4v5 was it really a good game?

I've had some REALLY good games in League, even when I didn't win. Games that lasted 50+ minutes because it was such a close back-and-forth match. And I've also had some really, really bad games as well. :)

I stopped saying GGWP or anything after a win or loss. Theres literally no point. But I do honor people who I felt deserved it. I feel like saying GG, espcially after a stomp, is like kicking your opponent while your down.

For me "GG" tends to mean "This was an average-to-better-than-average game, and there was no anger in it."

If it's a really fair, even, back-and-forth game I'll probably call it out as such with more than just GG. If it was a wild, crazy ride of a game than the same thing. If it's the sort where every player was amazing, and we had good, well-intentioned banter back and forth, that deserves special mention as well.

So "gg" is the fall-back for nothing of PARTICULAR note occurring, but the game still being free of toxicity and, win or lose, generally fun. It's the friendly, diplomatic, "thanks for playing, guys" gesture for games that don't merit specific praise for other reasons.
