Can I get banned for stating my opinion?

Let's say that the whole chat is empty. No one has said anything about themselves or their preferences when it comes to sport or TV-Shows.

Will I get punished for saying the following, assuming no one in the game has said anything.

Example 1: I think anime is for losers.

If no one has said anything, how could I possibly be targeting/harrassing anyone / violating the rules?

Example 2: I think basketball is for losers.

If no one has said that they are a basketball player or basketball fan, how could I possibly be targeting/harrasing someone / violating the rules?

This is a serious question :)

EDIT #1: I can see that anime fans are starting to downvote my post. That's kinda childish in my opinion, because this is a serious question.

I think maybe that falls on a lower end of toxicity, but obviously it's being said to incite arguments and insult people randomly. If you do this frequently I would not be surprised if you were issued a punishment either by the system or through a manual review. If you think making general statements not directed at a person is a loophole to get away with being rude and starting fights, it's not as clever as you think.

Disregarding whether it's toxic or not, it's completely irrelevant to the game at hand. You queued to play a video game, not discuss what people like to watch in their free time. Probably better to keep your mouth shut if you have nothing useful to say, nobody asked for your opinion.

You are obviously trying to just find a way around being reportable while being actually toxic man. Say as you please but I'm nearly certain you are just trying to avoid punishment of toxicity

There is no reason to state that in the middle of a match, other than to provoke or insult. Its directed at anime or basketball fans. So idk what you mean by its not targetted. Go ahead and play dumb though, idc.

The more serious question is .. why are you trying to play with fire?

You don't get punished for stating your opinion. You get punished for being a dick.

And this is not negative behavior. If this is negative behavior, then saying that terrorism is for losers is negative behavior too.

It can be.

This is like pouring gasoline everywhere and then arguing that it's ok because "there are no open flames anywhere near it." I mean you're just asking for an explosion by doing that.

This thread has pretty well run its course and been answered. Since it's devolving into passive aggressive and insulting comments towards others of different opinions, I'm going to lock it down before it goes further.

If anyone has questions about this moderation action, don't hesitate to reach out to the Boards Moderation Team via:

As a loser who likes anime I can safely say OP is probably trolling

To answer the apparent question, yes, you certainly can get banned for stating an opinion. You can also get banned for factual statements, whether true or false. The key is whether you're being toxic, flaming, and/or harassing people. Dropping "anyone who likes [this popular thing] is a loser" into chat is obviously just meant to rile up anyone who likes that popular thing and turn chat into a flamefest for your amusement, which is rightfully punishable.

To answer your actual question, it's an interesting idea to try to come up with some pre-approved toxicity with a paper trail you can link to, but, if you got banned for such behavior, neither the IFS nor Riot support would care about this thread (even if anyone did agree with you here, which no one is).
