How to deal with people who are in the wrong and get the opposing team to report you.

I play League quite a bit and in my games I do have the ones where other players get pissed off and start insulting teammates. Then when I say something like "Don't be toxic.", "Don't ruin the morale of the team.", etc I am the bad guy and they go get the enemy team to report me because they are in fear I will say something before they can. This has been troubling me for the 2 seasons I have played League, what is the correct response to many false reports going out like this? I know the tribunal is for the most part an automated system and I have gotten a chat restriction in the past for only telling teammates to stop being toxic in the least aggressive way possible. I'm very confused on this aspect and would like to hear some opinions. I feel like most responses are going to be "Just mute them." and while that does solve the situation for ME specifically it doesn't for the riven that is getting bullied so she is going to int now. I'm talking about a way to fix the problem for the team and not myself.

P.S: Please do not say "Ask the enemy team to report them before they do." this is a very immature and incorrect way of dealing with the situation, I yell at my friend specifically about it because it makes us look childish.

EDIT: Thank you everyone for your comments, I am glad to see others who have opinions on the matter. It feels good just talking about it. I will be reading more if you guys post them I just wanted to let you guys know I appreciate the feedback!

Asking for reports is considered a form of harassment.

Mute them, report them after the game and don't retaliate.

Mute, don't respond back, report after match for Negative Attitude(Griefing) and Verbal Abuse (harassment). Move on. Done.

False reports are thrown out, you won't have to worry about those.

Dude... the best thing to do is not say that shit in the first place. When I see someone say something toxic and then someone not involved jumps in with "stop being toxic" I just sigh and go "here we go...". Just don't perpetuate the situation by acting like anything the toxic player says is something that needs a response. Just be quiet. If there's a full out chat war already, then ya go ahead n say that... but as you've experienced, saying something like "don't be toxic" makes the situation worse after they said one thing. It triggers their defense mechanism where they have to justify what they said, or they then have to insult you. So why say it? Do u really think saying "don't be toxic" is gonna stop them from being toxic? What's your goal? You should know better.

Here's the thing: only one report is needed to get reviewed. Riot doesn't actually give more weight to a large number of reports in a single game. Your report is enough.

And yes, mute them is the right answer. You can't control other people's actions; it's a tough lesson to learn, but it applies outside league, too. If that Riven wants to int feed, she's gonna do it. Having said that, just saying something positive to the Riven can help a lot, in my experience. Give the Riven the same advice we're giving you. Just say "mute him and get some armor Riven. You good. Hang in there" or something. It can help.

Just got a 14 day suspension for doing almost absolutely nothing and my teammates telling the other team to report me http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/El74qZUE-how I do not think you can really do anything at this point because Riot has such a crappy report system and Tribunal is a total joke. Going off and muting them might save yourself from frustration but the reports will still go through and you can get banned/suspended for saying next to nothing. This isn't the most helpful comment but ya know just wanted to bring that to light

We all feel you bro. My suggestion is : don't really do or say anything to these players ,report them in post-game screen, and PREVENT OTHER PLAYERS FROM TILTING or JOINING THE ARGUMENT. No need to mute them if whatever they are saying is not affecting your gameplay, as they might still use the chat to communicate in game strategies besides raging. However if it starts to distract you, frustrate you, or make you type more, then just mute. Cause when you divert so much energy to the chat, the game loses its potential carry -you-.

It takes alot of personality and charisma to talk these ragers out of their bad mood, and if you aren't a natural, honestly just don't bother (or you can practise leadership speaking skills in real life). You could also charm these players with your exceptionally godly mechanics and confidently assure them you will carry this, although this is unlikely unless you are smurfing :P

As for how to prevent other players from tilting, simply type stuff that focus on the actual game or the positives, such as "our late is really strong, just gotta waveclear and be patient", "Janna come ward dragon with me", "Syndra flash 1245 can use a gank free kill", "Ezreal is really strong let's play around him", "3 top free drag"...etc etc. But if you ain't a fast typer, should probably just focus on your gameplay. Most of all, do not point out anyone's mistake, since most players probably realize it before you even type it, and pointing them out is only going to make them upset. - If you feel the necessity to point it out anyway, say it like you are only making a modest suggestion-

In short, mute if their rage starts to affect you, and don't forget to report them after game.

if you didnt say or do anything wrong is doesnt matter how many people report you, because it wont do anything, and it only takes one person in a game to report someone and if the system reads he was toxic then it will do something depending on the situation,so you could have all 9 people report you every game but if you dont do anything toxic then it wont do anything

It's best to just not call people out. If they're causing problems in chat, mute them immediately and then report them after the game.

Personally, I don't usually let myself be bothered by whatever people are saying. It's rare that I even bother to mute people. Sometimes I actually just start laughing at their behavior more than anything else.

swordofsun12/23/2016, 1:16:24 AM1 votes

I put mute, but really it should be mute and report.

Asking for people to report is a reportable offense.

LXII12/21/2016, 9:50:07 PM1 votes

There is no correct response. You just don't respond. That's it. False reports will net you no punishment so it doesn't matter how many of them you get.

Chibi Zephyr12/21/2016, 11:22:33 PM1 votes

Technically, you're supposed to mute and move on, however if you're insistent on going above that to better your chances of winning, you have to look to the physiology of people. Most "Toxic" behavior is actually an underperforming player deflecting by blaming someone else. The best, and only, way to effectively diffuse this is by giving that player an out. For example, if your top laner is Yasuo vs. Fiora, and he's feeding/raging, say, "Don't worry about it man, fiora is really op this patch." This takes a lot of blame off the player and makes them feel better without having to redirect blame. That being said, if it doesn't work the first time, mute and move on.

PS: asking other players to report someone is considered "witch hunting" by riot and is bannable. Never do it - I'm not making this up, I was told by Riot Econetics that that specifically contributed to my account being banned.

You won't man. I'm a person who is usually in the minority of things and the only way you win the argument in League is if you are statistically carrying(not even actually carrying just taking deaths).
