Why Ranked Is Causing Problems

I love the competition this game has to offer. The gameplay and challenging aspect of League of Legends has always interested me and allowed me to express my competitive side. I started taking ranked more seriously around season 5. I've managed to work my way up from Bronze to my current Plat rank.

(Important Part Now) However, I've begun to see a trend on how ranked is affecting people (especially myself). I know I'm not the best player, but I do have dreams of making it on to a competitive team of some sort which is why I take ranked more seriously. However, I can't determine my level of skill anymore. This isn't about being matched with "bad" teammates but rather toxic ones or ones that don't care about winning. This happens a lot in promo series due to the fact that Riot's ranked system matches you will "worse" players so you are forced to prove that you deserve to be promoted. If this isn't true then I must've been unlucky for 5 seasons. Anyways, these players aren't actually worse skilled players, they're extremely toxic and don't care about the game. This makes it very hard for promo series players to prove themselves when they're down players because "they don't want to play." I understand that every now and then people will complain and be toxic. This is not the problem. The problem sources from when the games really really matter then you are penalized and forced to almost 4v5 because your teammate is tilted out of their mind and doesn't want to play. These players tend to consistently do this sort of thing and actually spread this "toxic disease" to other players that actually care about playing. Then this creates an even bigger issue because now players that care about the game begin to become toxic themselves. I've even gotten toxic and upset as well at times. Banning players for being toxic or inting in a game isn't cutting at the root of the problem. The disease will never stop till there's a way to separate the toxic players from the ones that want to win games not matter how hard the game is.

I've never been chat restricted or even temp/perma banned. I've never even received a warning. I don't understand how consistently I and other players that care about trying to win, are still forced to deal with this toxic disease and told not to intervene. Specifically during promos. I just hope that Riot will actually take the time to terminate the disease rather than stopping little portions of it. As a person who suffers from major anxiety and has dealt through depression, it makes it even tougher. The players in Ranked could be potential LCS stars for all that I know. It's clear that toxicity will always remain in any competitive video game. But for the players that actually care, they deserve a chance to get better at the game and not have to deal with so many lost promos or LP drops because a player says "i'm done" then leaves the game.

I believe riot buffs your mmr up so high and lets you climb little by little, then intentionally does that to make you fall below what you want to be just enough that it makes your want to grind for little to no results.

Yeah I'm done with this game, its not getting any better, it has been downhill since they reset ranked and put role ranks. 1/10 games is a good game, the rest are just so bad it's not worth the 5 hour timesink... gg guys

Agreed. Imo the solution for this is to keep segregating players-if they're toxic, afk, feeding or trolling flag them as X and those who aren't doing all these as Y. Over time, Y players are the ones who actually care about climbing and just make games for them like team of Y vs team of X.

Feeding or trolling is difficult to segregate, so some sort of team mates feedback+proof can be used over games to find it. This way those who are putting efforts to learn and climb will get similar teammates. This won't mean they will climb easily, but the games won't be demotivating and tilting as before.

Matching Gold 4 players with bronze players makes perfect sense.

I mean how else are you going to climb unless you beat players almost 2 tiers in rank higher than you

Quick Edit, Im sure the terrible matchmaking as of late has nothing to do with the failed positional matchmaking code implemented.

August 16

Thats when Riot made a matchmaking change and strangely thats when things suddenly got worse.

Working as intended.

You aren't unlucky your mind is just playing tricks on you. MMR decides lobbies nothing to do with promos or no promos.

Alot of these problems come from low player morale. People still sticking around because they like the game, but hate the state it's in. Though realistically this is casual players problems. Once you are good enough to compete with the upper teirs skill levels, people will try in your games just because you make it so obvious you can carry.
