Giving up/AFKing is worse than being toxic and requires a 6 month/perma ban

Games in gold/plat on OCE are a complete joke. Out of 7 games on my smurf, 5 of them consisted of someone roaming base aimlessly.

I don't agree with the "If they keep doing it." There needs to be action taken immediately so they stop ruining other peoples games. I just played with a blitz where the entire team was begging him to come back and play. He repeatedly said "I'm doing this to piss you guys off."

How in god's name does this require a repeat offense?

If they keep doing it, that's exactly what they'll get. Just make sure to report them properly, and don't bother flaming them; all it does is cause more problems.

The problem with punishing AFking harshly is that connection/computer problems happen. And while it is everyone's responsibility to take care of them, its simply unrealistic to expect someone to have 0 problems.

You should also know that leaverbuster does detect some levels of non participation, like running in circles at base. So just cause they were moving does not mean that they are going to get away with it.

Honestly I think leaverbuster does a good job at punishing people who AFK. I do wish it would move on to bans after a certain amount of low priority queues though. Just because there are some people that don't care much about the wait time. I also wish there was a little more put into relief for those that are in a game with an AFK. Probably one of the things I would like to see added to league is the ability to leave a game after someone is already afk.

Low levels are always going to have an issue with leaving regardless of how harsh punishments are though. People haven't learned the importance of having everyone present yet, which is a problem many games don't really have. And probably more importantly people don't value those accounts yet.

Most online games cannot make the distinction between someone who is intentionally AFKing and who is having connection issues. In technical terms, they COULD check their logs and see disconnects and such. But is there a difference in the logs between someone pulling their computer's electrical plug and an ISP dropping out? Frankly, there is not much difference. And while many companies could find out with some digging, the majority will not.

If someone is constantly being disconnected, it is that person's responsibility to find out why and have it fixed, not the site or service they are connecting to.

Now, as I type this, a severe winter weather storm is hitting a large section of the U.S. There's some heavy rain and lightning here. So far (knock on wood,) there have been no service issues. But that doesn't mean there are not people being affected. Me, personally, I'm giving people some leeway. But I've already reported at least two people who have started and then left at least three games each. Riot will do the same. That's why your first offense will only incur you a five minute penalty to the queue.
