what needs to be said about autofill and it's place in the community

IT IS A NECESSARY EVIL

Yes, i know that a lot of you are actually very fucking tilted by it, annoyed, sick to the fat beerbelly stomach of getting support when you wanted top/mid, i know that feeling many times. BUT have you, instead of focusing on your selfish desire, ever thought about why autofill exists?

League of legends sets a major point of weight in balance for all game-aspects, such includes the team composition. So someone has to fit in every role, regardless of personal liking or not. If you had midlane like 3 times in a row, then maybe toplane once somewhere inbetween, you are bound to be autofilled to balance out your champion picks and role focus in the game. You can favor one role or two, and that is fine. Maining is a totally normal Thing to do in league, but this is why most people feel like autofill is just a nuisance. Riot does not restrict you to those specific roles, so you have no legitimate excuse, no unreasonable butthurt that will in any way explain why you can restrict yourself.

Someone has to always draw the short stick, sometimes you don't, sometimes you do. You can either hope you have friendly teammates that will switch places with you IF you ask nicely and respectfully, and don't reason with stuff like "i'm x main, let me Play x lane." No. Teammates won't trust you by the amount of Skill you claim, but by the respect you are ready to show for your performance.

Second option is to just man the fuck up and Play that damn role. It doesn't matter if you get the worst role, it doesn't matter if you are forced to Play the worst champ you got, you still have to try your best. Effort is not apologized by circumstance. So unless you have legitimate doctors showing physical viewable evidence that you cannot, for whatever reason, Play support, you have NO EXCUSE to not try. Yes, you might fuck up, you might feed as fuck, but that is the point. you MIGHT. you might also perform very fucking good and carry your team like you're krepo smurf praying that whoever you wanna wreck has flash for you to predict it and cc them.

Autofill annoys, but we have to live with it. Do you grab a poster and go on a Demonstration infront of the white house just because you don't like a certain type of dish existing? or because a certain norm exists the way it is? no, you don't, unless you are just that lost out of your mind. So you should not do the same with league of legends. Things are the way they are because riot Needs to somehow balance out the picks for all roles, someone has to Play what most others do not, what all the candidates for your teamcomp do not.

Autofill is necessary to balance out team compositions. As much as we hate it, it has to be so there won't be a 90% Players going mid only and like 2% of the playerbase being supports, counted both volunteers and actual supp Players. Teamcomps would nearly cease to exist if autofill would get removed or even changed, do you realize that? you would spend HOURS searching for one teamcomp that contains either one supp, or one adc, or one whatever is missing just now just for one game. Do you want that? do you wanna spend half the day in queue for a 30-45 minute game?

If your answer is no, then shut up and deal with it. I get it, you, the Reader, most likely hate autofill, but instead of getting yourself pissed every time you log in, how about you learn to Play a supp champ so you don't always struggle with your very life just to get that role donw? Hell, i main zed, talon and ryze, and still picked up thresh and Sona just incase i get support autofilled so i can Play both an offensive peel and a defensive buffing champion for my teamcomp when noone else does.

Rather than getting angry, get around it. I am nearly 3 years in league and still a complete loser who gets tilted here and there, yet you don't see me cry about autofill, i manage it regardless of my hatred for it. and if i can do that, then you should have an easy time Managing. Just try. Try positivity for the support role, your team will fucking kiss your feet and suck your dick for free to show you their thanks.

The way I see it, you need auto-fill to have the preferred roles, otherwise queue times have unacceptable length.

If you take out both, you have the old draft system. Which was basically "auto-fill" for every player after the first choice. There was even less chance of getting the role you wanted.

solution to autofill?

be a support main.

######and then realise that in high bronze / low silver ELO you only get support 50% of the time in flexQ as "fill", the good side is that you'll get it 90% of the time.

The thing with autofill is it's against our will. I'd rather have a long queue time and a guaranteed role I enjoy rather than wait 3 minutes for support. Totally fine if you don't, but I'm not you.

How I see it, autofill made this whole queue thing worse because now instead of waiting a long time in queue, I get into a game, have someone angry they got autofilled, and then no one wants to dodge to get out of the game so we all just sit there for 20 or so minutes with someone either trolling because they hate playing support, or we have someone who does not support very well and that leads to a bunch of problems since support is in the duo lane.

Most people do not want to play bot either, everytime someone gets filled bot or support(The duo lane)they are generally going to perform badly if they don't troll, and so we lost the game from the beginning.

**What should happen is if you really hate the long queue times, then check a box that says you are perfectly fine with being autofilled. If you are a patient person who would rather wait many MANY more minutes for your role, then don't check the box. Simple as that, everyone gets what they want. **

Stop trying to force people to play support/bot, just accept they won't and instead give them what they want while keeping the integrity of the system. Autofill should be a choice, not something we're forced to abide to.

Autofill is most certainly not necessary.

  1. I would much rather wait twice the time in queue to get a team that plays the roles/champions for which they are most comfortable.

  2. Because of autofill, the number of people dodging games has increased significantly and this increases the time it takes to get into games, thus offsetting the amount of time reduced in the queue.

  3. I don't like games being decided by which team has the fewest number of players autofilled... and it is very obvious which team has the autofilled players. I've certainly benefited from it and it's no fun stomping someone in a lane when they clearly are out of place there. Similarly it is no fun either laning with an autofilled adc/support or having one (or more) on your team.

So, no, it is not a "necessary evil", this game would be much better without it in a mumber of ways----not the least of which being more balanced contests and less toxicity in champ select and during games.

I really apreciate this post. have my upvote!

From what I've experienced, the botlane (support & adc) is by far the most "needed" roles. Due to our current community, its easy to figure that having two players who has to depend on eachother in one lane is a recipe of a disaster.

The amount of hate a main support would receive on a daily basis was already more than a majority would be willing to accept. Now that we're being given autofilled ADC's most of us dont see much other choice than to leave our role learning a new role to main.

It's already hell trying to carry games as a support, but when you're being autofilled with a annoyed ADC who's autofilled you start to truly hate your role.

At first I loved this new system, but as time went it has done nothing but giving me hatred for the role i once loved. Imagining that Main Supports leaves to become another role increases the amount of autofilling, which means more and more people get to experience this hell of a role.

I fully understand why people disgust the role i once loved, but this is sadly the result of the community we all created. Untill Riot finds another solution- this is going to be something every player will be strugglig with for a long time.

The best solution I believe, which you describe quite well, is that we show extra care & respect towards those who plays the unpopular roles. That we're patient and dont point fingers whenever something "bad" happens- flaming your support or adc. ^But let's be real. This is pure daydreaming.

Riot had to take a decision with a limited amount of options. The question wasn't "which option is better than the other", but "which option is worse than the other".

I concur completely, and this is coming from someone who has terrible rng about these things. Autofill is necessary, and makes you play the game more in a way. I am a trash adc, and get autofilled to it more than I like, so therefore, I got ez, as he is a simple adc that's hard to feed on (I still manage to.) So therefore, my skills have gotten better, I can hit skill shots much more easily (as that is what ez mainly is) and can now decently do adc. Autofill caused all this to happen (Even if I'm still bad) so thanks autfill, you made me a better player.

It is absolutely not necessary. Its existence is directly tied to the health of Flex (Dynamic) que. Autofill wasn't needed 24/7 last season because there weren't two seperate Ranked ques splitting the playerbase. The only reason we have it now is to protect Flex que.

You can read about it here from the start of the season. http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/competitive/riot-pls-ranked-pls-2017-season-ranked-changes

Riot claimed that if que times were too long, they would get rid of Flex que. Instead, they chose to enable autofill 24/7 so that possibility never happens.
