Player to Player Feedback System

Hey guys, I wanted to talk about how I think League should improve as a game. The purpose of this discussion is to show why, if focus of Riot games would be on EDUCATING players, many problems will be solved. I've seen this kind of debate around many times, but I think none of them managed to pinpoint what the biggest issues here are, and moreover I haven't seen a proper solution for the existing problems. So the main points of discussion will be:

  1. The current report/ban/punishment system
  2. The introduction of new Player to Player Feedback system
  3. Conclusion

NUMBER ONE: As each and every player I was once bad at League. Not bad in a way that I didn't know how champions abilities worked, but in my decision making skills. Things as starting a baron without vision and when the whole enemy team is alive, or constantly being killed in lane by the enemy jungler because of bad positioning and shoving the lane, thus making myself an easy target. I was such a player. And the only way I became better is because my friends who I was playing with pointed out my mistakes and told me I am bad. Normally this would be considered flaming, and while most of the players in League of Legends use aggressive and offensive ways of pointing out your mistakes, Riot does not provide an alternative. Their idea is that everyone should be positive and focus on good things. But how in God's name can I not get angry when my 1/9 top laner blames me, the jugnler, for loosing his lane, after he dived 3 times and lost, and died 6 other times by basically signalling the enemy jugnler to come and gank him through his positioning? The mute button is not an alternative as I want to communicate with my teammates right? I want to make them understand their mistakes but of course, I cannot type an essay like this in chat, while playing the game, so it is much easier to tell them: "You are bad stfu", right? The option of in game voice chat has been requested by League players for ages, and when Riot introduces it, it can only be used for premades. Seriously? The main idea here is that the focus is too much on how to punish toxic players, rather than providing a better communication and feedback system. Everything that is implemented in this sense is just to cover up toxicity, but the issue will never be solved this way, ever. There must be a way for players to get feedback on their performances, there must be a way of letting someone now they are not playing up to standard, because this is the only way they will get better: by realizing their mistakes. There is no way for them to know that. You cannot even report a player for "Poor Performance" anymore. Why? Why is there no way of proactively telling the players you have just played with how you think they should improve? Currently you are forced to pick a player who you think performed well by honoring him/her. That is great. But why isn't there a way to give feedback to a player in a more constructive way. What does a player learn from getting a honor? Nothing, he/she just feels good. And, after almost ten years, why is there no proper voice chat system implemented. I am sure we can all agree that this would improve player communication, thus reducing flame. Currently you are forced to be "positive" no matter what, and you have to communicate your message by completely stopping from playing the game, and typing the message. This is why players hold their anger in, and at some point burst into flaming, and being toxic. Moreover, rather than trying to remedy the situation, Riot has a zero tolerance policy towards toxicity. But I assure, if every toxic player would be banned, half of the people playing this would still be playing this. It makes sense, they don't want to loose players, but at the same time they don't give a crap about EDUCATING the players. This together with the fact that players that perform poorly are not punished in any way whatsoever, makes the game extremely unfun, and the games are just decided by "Which team did the most mistakes overall". I believe Riot has a responsibility to educate players, and this should be the main focus. Not balancing, not skins or emotes or rotating game modes. There are so many people playing this game that this kind of system may sound impossible, but really, it's not.

NUMBER TWO: First of all, this whole issue would be solved by introducing a player-to-player feedback system, and an individual behavior system for each player (similar to the already existing Honour System). After each game, besides honoring someone, you should be able to give feedback to a player, if you find it necessary. There should be a simple button called:"Give this player feedback", which extends into options such as: "Give this player feedback about his positioning", "Give this player feedback about his communication", "Give this player feedback on his/her decision making skills", etc. All the feedback you give and get should be recorded on the player's profile by creating a separate "Player behavior and skills" tab, thus also making sure that if this tool is abused, people can easily get punished. This would enable players to reflect on their performances, analyse their mistakes, and in the end of the day be better at the game. If no one points out their mistakes they will just keep making them. Truth is, League is a complicated game, so people are bound to do mistakes, but what is important, is whether you learn from them. So, once you reach level 30, before you start playing ranked, there should be another tutorial on "more advanced" rules of the game. Things such as: Lane Pressure, Late game decision making, Objective priority, Situational builds, Map awareness, etc. This way you make sure players know what they do, so the chances of someone making mistakes is lowered. Consequently, if a player still repeats the same mistakes, they should definitely be punished, in order to raise their awareness, something called: "reality check". A punishment decision can easily be made with the help of the feedback system, and the Match history, and the punishment itself does not have to be a permanent ban, or a communication constraint, but something constructive. The player who has received negative feedback, feedback that is also supported by their in game stats, should be initially warned, be advised to take more time to reflect on their mistakes through the feedback system, and be pointed towards tutorials on how to improve himself. If they keep making the same mistakes (aka if they still get constant negative feedback), they should be punished more severely (and I'm sure Riot can come up with creative ways of doing that). Secondly, for the love of god, implement in-game voice chat, so if I believe a player is doing something wrong, I don't have to stop and type for 5 minutes, thus falling behind, getting more angry, and in the end flame them anyway. There is actually no reason for this tool not to exist, as if it abused, or if you don't feel comfortable talking to someone you can just not use it! Being a team game, this option is more than necessary, and in my opinion should be used at all times, but of course, if you don't wanna use it you have to option not to. But we can all agree that through better communication players will learn more, and in the end be better!

NUMBER THREE: In conclusion, I believe through this system the overall quality of gameplay will be improved, as people will start playing better, toxicity will be highly reduced, League of Legends will be more fun to play, and most importantly, the community will be better. If you think I am wrong please let me know, and feel free to come up with better ways of implementing this kind of system. I am looking forward to see what you guys think about this.
