A little explanation to people who think being toxic is okay

I play sports. Specifically handball. (I live in NYC, so its not the handball some might think, in some places it's called wall ball) Look it up and get the basic idea of what it is.

Now, if you purposely hit the ball AWAY from the wall, hit a down, or get it out, that equates to inting in a game of LoL. DO NOT THINK IT IS DIFFERENT AT ALL. Forcing your team to lose or making it hard for your own team to win is looked down upon UNIVERSALLY in the world of sports. So there are NO EXCUSES for doing this.

Next, there's toxicity. Trash-talking in a game, or even just cursing in a game of handball or many other sports can get your team disqualified. And for good reason. NO ONE can concentrate on a game if you spend half the time trying to PISS PEOPLE OFF. Once again, this is looked down upon.

Lastly, the classic "ggez". In every sport, it is customary to shake hands after a game and say "good game" "ggez" is like slapping the player in the face, calling them trash, and then saying "good game", following with an obnoxious look like they think you are lower than them.

I get it. People say LoL isn't a sport. People think they can get away with inting and trolling just because they hide behind a screen. But seeing as to how people in real life treat toxicity in physical sports, maybe it would be a good idea to treat LoL like one too.

Oh trust me, if this game required you to have a face cam attached to every game you play, the toxicity would drastically drop. Why? because everyone call talk shit behind a keyboard and screen but many cant say stuff like that with their face in the open.

People are toxic because they think it will have no repercussions, considering how many games you can be toxic and reported in before Rito actually takes any action. Taking your anger out on someone else online is better feeling that just grinding your teeth, especially because you can't see their response and you can just assume that they're P.O.

Agreed. When my teammates say ggez it kind of pisses me off.

....DO NOT THINK IT IS DIFFERENT AT ALL....

Unfortunately, it is. It's obvious in an actual sport when you're deliberately hitting the ball away from the wall or whatever. Not so much in League. In League, it's as clear as you make it out to be. The same could actually happen in a sport, but it's highly, highly, unlikely for the person doing it to not get caught. I can "lose" the lane on purpose and make it out as me being tilted or being a bad player. I can "pick an off-meta pick, " as long as it's explained properly and I'm "trying."

See, but most people don't do it randomly. Yeah, if you randomly start talking trash for no good reason in anything, it's bad.

In league, it's often a result of something, aka retaliation. In sports, most events would be a case-by-case basis. League is "unbiased," and really doesn't care about context, so it just punishes both players. If you were to draw a comparison between this and handball, it would be a person getting angry at a person who was "inting" by hitting the ball away from the wall, and getting punished for it. In your example, you say people are universally hated for doing that, so everyone would be pretty pissed at the guy who's intentionally hitting the ball away from the wall. League system would punish everyone on your team as a result. In addition, the system would disregard the reason as to why you were angry; basically, you and your teammates look like an asshole who was trash talking your own teammate.

Again, toxic people tend to be toxic for a reason.

Not everyone is "crossing the line" (so to speak) and doing personal insults. THOSE are the types that are universally hated. The ones that are punished and you don't see people making a fuss out of are the majority, and those types of "toxicity" are usually in response to something else happening in the game.

In every sport, it is customary to shake hands after a game and say "good game" "ggez" is like slapping the player in the face, calling them trash, and then saying "good game", following with an obnoxious look like they think you are lower than them.

It is customary, but, people in sports, like in League, will find a way to slightly bend the rules so they won't be punished/looked down upon. Just like the missing ping is used for toxicity, people can do some malicious "BM" in sports too. It happens a lot.

Look up Micheal Jordan, one of the most celebrated athletes ever. His attitude contradicts your entire thoughtless post. People will love it here anyways, because it supports their own stance.

In my experiences, the same people who complain about "whiny oversensitive players" often seem to be the most aggressive and explosive players when they are confronted. I'm not sure why a bunch of people who have passion for a game cannot seem to follow a few logical rules to ensure the enjoyment of the game. The game's balance state already makes many not enjoy it, so why add another reason by being an asshole? It just makes you look like your parents did a bad job raising you, or worse, you're socially inept despite having proper raising.

Just because something bad was allowed to be part of the culture of sports, doesn't mean it's a good thing. "Everyone does it, it must be ok, so why change?" -- NOT.

The only thing i agree with is gg ez, because by saying that, you are trash talking to the opposite team. But seriously, why does everyone has to be a whiney pussy? For example, when someone is inting or playing in a non intended way, why can't you blame him for that? For real, imagine playing soccer, and all of the sudden your goalkeeper starts running into the enemy team. Wouldn't you be angry at him? This 0 toxicity policy is just r%%%%%ed. And to all of those whiney pussys that report people mindlessly because they said shit or fuck: get your shit together, don't take it too seriously, and just except that people sometimes have to let off some steam and just express their anger

Personally I decided long ago that any game I play ever would be met with the idea that it's a hobby that is meant to be enjoyed.

I, as a gamer, weigh video games and watching video games to be the same as playing or watching any other sport or hobby.

Why? Because why shouldn't it be considered the same? Because the platform is different? That's like saying you hate reading but watch tv, or hate anime but like reading or watching tv, it's a platform to allow you to compete with others or watch others compete. The things shown are slightly different but it's still competition.

Being good at your sport/game and show good sportsmanship is ultimate pinnacle that people respect and want to emulate. Being good at a sport/game and being a jerk about is makes decent people cringe and turn away.

Jerks on this forum, and jerks in games/sports, always seem to be the most vocal defending themselves and others rights/reasons for being an ass. The only people who like jerks are jerks.

maybe in 'wallball' everyone is gentlemanly and proper but play a few games of pickup basketball. trash talk is almost constant where i play and no one cries and whines about it. ggez is milder than almost anything people say. it makes the games more intense and makes everyone play harder.

a game where people only said 'ooh nice shot. good play! good game everyone'. would be so boring compared to the way we do it. it is sad some people believe competitive games should be like that.

it honestly makes me believe you do not know how to truly compete

Cornerstone14/18/2017, 1:47:46 PM1 votes

You are a bad player if you have to be a jerk to tilt someone just to win. The means does not justify the end.

If your goal in real life is to be a millionaire, this does not give you the right to rob people. If your goal is to win a game, it does not give you the moral license to be a jerk.

Just because you're used to playing whatever game with a bunch of other jerks, and you think being a jerk is more interesting, doesn't make it "normal", or "ok". If you want to be a jerk with other jerks, make a custom game and leave everyone else alone.

It's sad some people think being friendly and nice makes a game boring or less competitive. It honestly makes me believe you do not know how to truly compete.

I'll agree with you to a point.

But in sports, trash talking is a regular part of the game. PARTICULARLY in football and basketball and, hell, there's fighting in hockey. It is a part of sports, especially semi-professional and professional sports. Watch NFL films sometime or check out the raw footage of some of the players that are micd up. I used to sit a couple rows up from the floor at Phoenix Suns games back in the '90s, you should have heard the trash Charles Barkley used to talk to opponents. So yeah, trash talking is a part of sports... does it make you a jerk? Not entirely. When the attacks get PERSONAL then that can make you a jerk, but I think it's healthy to a degree.
