FIRST TIMING A CHAMP IN RANKED IS CONSIDERED TROLLING RIGHT?

I'm a mid main in Silver and I just played a game with a Nunu. Now, I don't usually care about unconventional champ picks that much as long as they aren't complete trolls. And I think Nunu is perfectly fine, who cares ya know? But this Nunu decided to play Nunu for the very first time in my ranked game.

Well at 5 minutes game was over because our Nunu was 0/4 and their Kindred was 4/0. Then that carried over somehow to top lane because our Jax was 0/3 at 5 minutes as well. Not sure if the top lane was Nunu's fault but it surely had an impact on the rest of the game.

Now, I think that trying out a champ for the first time in a ranked game is safely and universally considered trolling, but apparently the people I was against who got handed the free win thought otherwise. (No, I didn't flame them for thinking so, but I am wondering what most people think.)

I reported the Nunu for first timing his champ in a ranked game. Not for inting, nor for giving up, nor for toxic behavior. But I think this could be a punishable case of trolling.

I WROTE THIS BECAUSE I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE COMMUNITY THINKS AND WHETHER THIS SHOULD BE UNDER THE CATEGORY OF TROLLING.

Thanks for reading.

Caps lock is not cruise control for cool. Don't use it.

As to your point; anyone is allowed to play anyone in any position, regardless of their mastery of the champ. Many choices may not be optimal or wise, but it's not 'trolling' nor is it punishable.

If he did it explicitly for the purpose of ruining your game (and said as such) then yes, you could report him for griefing.

If he did not int, did not give up, did not flame, then he is not trolling. Playing bad or first time champ is not a punishable offense in any mode.

Trolling on its term itself is not banable, because "trolling" is very subjective and too wide to punish on. Whatever one player does may be differently perceived by the other players but their intent may not have been malice.

That having said, I think the word you are looking for is "Griefing"; Deliberately causing counter-productivity towards your own team or explicitly/intentionally assisting the enemy team. Forms of this are giving out champion locations, betraying gank, push or objective opportunities, etc. Things that are not banable/reportable offenses include, and not necessarily limited to;

  • Playing a champion or lane for the first time
  • playing a role that a champion initially doesn't belong in
  • purchasing items that aren't standard for your champion
  • harvesting CS as a support role
  • grabbing camps/buffs from a jungle as non-jungler These are not considered malficient intent or aid the enemy team, and thus they are not a bannable offence. In which case, I recommend not wasting too much energy/effort into behavior like this. Not because it can cause you to get into trouble, but simply because it's not worth the effort.

Also, the gamemode platform this happens on, means nothing to the grayzone explained above. The only factor that plays a role is that also the 'troller' will have something to lose if he messes up.
