How to deal with toxic teammates?

So I just got out of what might be the absolute worst game of league I've ever been in in terms of toxicity. We're talking radioactive fallout levels here. Lead in the drinking water, "somebody poisoned the water hole" stuff. Normally I try to ignore this stuff, not let it affect me. But I'm ashamed to say this time I snapped and fired back. I threw all their vitriol back at them and then some. It felt good at the time, but now I feel just kind of scummy and frankly if these jerks try to report ME now they might have a foothold to do get a real punishment going, even though this is the first time I've ever done something like this. So I have to ask, for the future: how do YOU deal with toxic players? Any relaxation tips or thought processes that might help me (or others) from losing their cool in the future?

You just mute them. Press tab, and there is a sound icon next to them on the scoreboard. Click it and you'll no longer see anything they type. If you don't, you're suffering for no reason, and if you respond in a negative manner you just open yourself up to being reported.

Ok so iv'e been shit outta luck this season and pretty much found it impossible to climb due to trolls or whatever. My way is just mute everyone on both ends. Sounds dumb but it works. just play and use pings.

AFKing is the only way to actually deal with them.

My trick whilst playing is simply not being tilted by losing, or self tilting by winning.

Play for mastery. Play for fun. If you yourself are progressing further in the game, it doesn't matter what your team is doing.

Winning is definitely enjoyable. However you will learn more through losing. Find a way to enjoy your teammates saltiness, realizing that they are here to have fun and learn too.

You have pushed past the saltiness. They will learn to do so as well.

You've learned most of your lesson, and if you feel "scummy" for being toxic, then this is a great learning experience for you as well.

Keep your chin up. Your doing fine.

Mute everyone and try ur best and only use helpful info in chat. I carried a pretty much 4v5 game cuz our lucian got butthurt started calling people names and would only push lanes wouldnt hit towers or help teammates still carried because I got extremely fed won 4v5's and eventually after 40 min he got bored and split push ended the game.

Use it at the beginning of EVERY game. It will make you 10x happier playing this game.

Mute them, then feed them. Spend time in their lane and help them. Toxic is really just fear and insecurity, and frustration. If you can bolster someone's confidence, this will help them get over their frustration.

But don't forget the mute part. If you type back or try to explain yourself, your "teammate" will spend the whole 20 minutes before ff explaining why you suck, why it's not his fault, etc. etc. . . and typing is not farming, and no farm = lose.

Mute them. They don't know what they are saying, maybe they had a bad day. I don't like to admit it, but even I become a bit toxic when the game isn't going well. However, if you have pity on them and do not want to mute them, or talk back, the best option is kindness. Ask them if they are having a bad day, or if they are feeling well. In fact, one player has been very toxic in my game, and I asked if they are feeling okay. What was the persons response?

Their grandmother died that day.

Toxic players are humans too, they need sympathy. They sometimes are players that need attention. although we can try to get them banned, we can also let them change.

i simply dont say anything to them. i play my way and they play theirs. i leave chat up so that if they decide to harass and name call or try to get others to gang report me i can report them afterwards. as we all know flaming in chat is more likely to result in a punishment than simply trolling or inting.
