The mysteries of men and their concept of love

This is a phenomenon that I have noticed in my years of gaming. Whether they are men or women (I highly suspect most of the time they're men) some players seem to find it cute, cool, or masculine to express their "love" of particular teammates or a singled out teammate (ex. "LOL cya love ya", "okay that's nice, gotta go luv u"). Now obviously everyone has free speech to a degree, but I simply don't get it. Why say something so overused? Just in my opinion, male players shouldn't be exploiting that concept/phrase as a way to pick on someone else's nerves because sexuality is very sensitive to not all, but some homosexual and straight males, and using said phrase I feel is being not just immature, but ignorant and asking for an awkward situation.

Now that my opinion's been given, I'd like to hear what you guys all think, since even now I've never understood this particular occurrence. And please be reasonable and mature in your postings.

I, um... what? Love is a beautiful thing and a perfectly valid sentiment to have. You are conflating it with sexuality. It is a way to express a fondness for a person.

It makes you uncomfortable, there is nothing wrong with that. But I think your discomfort is unjustified. Cuteness does not belong solely to women. We are allowed to have it too. And the same is true for expressions of love, which are nothing more than a cute way of saying you approve of someone.

So, love always equals sex to you? That sounds like a pretty messed up home life. Now, if someone says they want to bang you your argument might have some merit, but love? I love my best friend. That doesn't mean I don't think he's ugly as shit. (No, seriously. How does he get some of the women he's gone out with??)

Never needed to deal with these people. Sounds very grating though.

It's a joke. I remember when it started... probably around 2004ish... it just became funny to say love you to your guy friends as a cringey joke or for shock factor. I say it to unsuspecting people occasionally still. I'm 29 and just a few months ago I said it to a 50+ year old male coworker (I am male) in front of a few other coworkers and everyone laughed. It's nothing serious, just a silly joke.
