The "A player you reported has been punished" message needs work.

It needs to either be made reliable, or removed completely. The rate at which the IFS sends out the "A player you reported has been punished" message is so, so low that it's worse than it not existing. Because players think it's more reliable than it actually is, it just makes them outraged that the player they reported did not get punished, when in many cases they did and the anger is unjustified. I know that the troll-catching and IFS chat systems are both being worked on and improved, and that the troll one in particular is not as good as many players think it should be, but this just makes people think they're worse than they really are. It's only frustrating people at this point.

I agree. Perhaps some sort of cutoff period where if the person you reported is punished by the system during that time you are guaranteed to get the message the next time you are online.

With that suggestion though here the problem that I foresee (and likely why Riot hasn't already done that). It would send the wrong message to the player if you sent a false report for intentionally feeding, but later on they were banned for poor behavior in chat.

But even with that problem I feel like a guaranteed message is preferable to what we have now.

I agree. My faith in IFS has fallen to rock bottom because I have not received a single punishment message for over a year and I have been reporting plenty of people at rate of about one report per day. That has convinced me that for one reason or another the IFS does not value my reports at all. Since Riot has told us that report weight does not exist anymore, that pretty much means that either reports do not work for ARAM games (I only play in the Abyss), or the reports do not work for me and my closest friends (none of us have seen a punishment message in over a year).

(The former could be true since Riot does not respect ARAM games equal to the Rift games.

The latter could be true if Riot has flagged our accounts as false reporters (which we don't think we are) which they speak about in their report FAQ ("players who consistently make false reports against others diminishes the value of that player's report and renders them meaningless.") .. if the system either gave those punishment messages consistently or not at all, then the IFS would not feel as useless .. (as it actually is?))

this got pointed out so many times, but i feel like riot doesnt give a fuck. just like the "honor enemys should come back". riot said nothing about it and just doesnt care i feel like.

Honestly I support removing it altogether. The message inherently leads to a witch hunting type attitude where players attempt to find out if their reports are directly getting players punished.

I think it could be replaced with Riot releasing monthly statistics of some form or having a monthly dev corner post about the state of behavior. But that's a lot of work and would be yet another can of worms.

Serious question here: How often do you report someone?

I ask because I report one player in maybe 20-30 games, so pretty rarely. I also get the "punishment issued" message almost every time I report someone.

Clearly the Troll catching needs work because there's still so many trolls out there Trundle Trundle Trundle

I mean... people are honestly ignorant. You get the message if you're the last to report (Or so I've read repeatedly) and thus a teammate who came back late and reported after you would get the message not you yourself. Maybe they get banned the next game after someone else reports them etc.

I definitely agree. I can see why they might not do every time (to prevent consistantly toxic people from reporting each other to game the system), but they could at least do it consistantly for hate speech. It's not like they hide that, since those words are the only ones censored on the boards. And those are the biggest reports for "wtf this guy said X y no ban rito?"

why do you think it doesnt work sometimes? i believe it works 100%. if you didnt get the message then the player did not get punished.

I want statistics of how many assholes were banned due to my reports.

I've had this problem before where I report someone who has been using racial slurs and hate speech who were 100% punished and I know it but I don't get the message about it. I has for sure happened to me before because there is no way people using the N word all game hasn't been banned. Agreed, make it more reliable.
