Cooperation in Draft games is really low
While I have to admit that this game at the moment does a great job at curbing the toxicity of the community, there's something rather ironic that I've noticed that happens.
When trying to get S grade on a champion, it is sometimes impossible until you get that champion to mastery level 4. That way, you have a badge on the loading screen showing you have some experience with the champion. Otherwise, your teammates may randomly rage at you and not cooperate. A team that doesn't work together will generally have poor scores all over. I just played the first game as Sona after getting her to champion mastery 4, and I instantly earned my chest. My team, while 3 of them played rather poorly, at least wasn't intentionally playing like crap and did try to win. Pretty often I'll get some raging lane partner if I'm stuck at bottom lane or as the support, but it's even more common if I'm playing a champ that I haven't hit level 4+ with.
Another common issue is summoner spell discrimination. If you play a champion a certain way which you found is more effective than what someone might normally do...say for example you take any spell that isn't flash and/or isn't exhaust, but you are in the support slot. Doesn't matter what champion you picked, your ally will literally bust their knuckles flaming you for your spell selection...you basically have to 1vs2 bottom lane and it's a nightmare. Or you play bot lane but you didn't take flash and/or heal, same difference. And if you don't take Ignite as the mid, it can happen, no doubt. Perhaps not as often because you're not in the same lane as anyone, but it happens plenty enough for it to be a problem.
One way I get around these things is to pick very tanky champs and hope someone on my team comes to help eventually, so that we can win some fights here or there. Of course, this isn't always very reliable since there can be parties in the game and they will group up for non-participation. It can be really annoying when this happens. So you may say, "report and move on" but the problem is it happens so darn often it makes some of us not want to play the game. Plus a lot of the time, people are not being very clear that they are intentionally throwing the game. It's like they're trying to give a bad name to dumb people or something.
So yeah, just want to point out that cooperation matters more than skill when it comes to the grades...at least that is what I've taken away from the games I've played over the past however many months since they introduced this champion mastery system.
I've disliked Sona ever since I first played her many years ago when she was free to play, and I still dislike her. And I don't think my skill has gone up since I bought her recently. She seems to me like so many champs to be just another champ that requires teamwork to be effective. I don't mind that she is designed this way, but I wish that there wasn't some imaginary wall of experience that a player has to climb to do well with her. And the same goes for any other champion that is discriminated against.
Meanwhile, I wonder if we'll get some sort of experience badges for playing with various summoner spells? That way we can see the difference between someone that doesn't take the 'meta spell' because it's a champ-specific thing and the guy that is just experimenting or even trolling around.
