After being stuck in Silver for over a year, I have found the secret to climbing.

In the last two or three weeks, I have gone from Silver 3 to Gold 2. How did I do it? Very simple. It's not some secret mechanical outplay trick or anything like that. Here it is: React to situations logically, not emotionally. I'm serious. This simple trick has won me eighteen out of the last twenty games. If your bot lane dies, don't think "Wow, they're bad." think, "Okay, the enemy team is probably going to try to take dragon now. I should attempt a steal." This game is so. Much. Easier.

As a support main for a long af time: the secret is to play in relation to how others play, not according to how others play.

You have your own form of style, and your team has theirs. Instead of attempting to dictate how another person plays, instead figure out how to use your own unique talents to supplement it. For example, I prefer enchanter-based supports (specifically Nami and Lulu) but also like to be a bit aggressive, as sitting and doing nothing all game just feels boring to me. If my laner is also aggressive, great! We just pubstomp the enemy through our overwhelming force the moment one of us lands a catch. If they're more passive, I take more of a zoning role: attempting to simply poke at them without a full commitment instead of going full-auto aggressive, and saving my crowd control for a moment where we must fight, since I know my landing it in most other situations is probably going to be a waste of my mana and cooldowns.

If our jungler is gank-tastic, awesome! I'll rush a sweeper asap and focus on keeping all the paths clear whenever I get a chance. If he's more focused on another lane, or farm heavy, I'll focus far more on keeping our own wards up, and trying to keep vision on the nearest entries to our jungle to try and spot invasions.

Not only does "you suck noob, go in!" never get you anywhere but the banlists, it's actually not accurate in most cases: people play the game differently, and part of the challenge is to play your game in a way that doesn't suck for everyone else.

Why can't I think both?

I see you are a jungler, so that makes sense, you can't always do something like that as top lane.

Marshbouy3/4/2019, 11:52:44 PM18 votes

People might laugh, but seriously. Sometimes the simple shit is the most important. You can't make someone un-die, but you can react to what the enemy will now do.

I mean, isn't that how it should work for everyone? I never got the whole react with emotions things to how someone plays lol.

Thanks Scott. I really needed this advice. I got to silver last year from bronze. This year I want to hit gold so I will try and apply this more. Let’s see how it goes : )

I was expecting memes and you give me advice I can actually use. WTF

FioraWillCarry3/5/2019, 12:03:54 AM3 votes

lol....you're just on a lucky streak bro.

Do you know how many times I made a small change in my playstyle, went on massive win streaks thinking I'd finally solved League only to lose 18 games in a row after that?

Nah dude. If your team is more garbage than the enemy team, you lose. That will not change.

This is a very respectable and admirable post. If more people were like you, actually focusing on how to win and improve, the game would be a lot less toxic. I think everyone could take this advice. Even people in diamond or challenger.

Clone Is Friend3/5/2019, 11:19:11 AM2 votes

nah, i think that you should tell your bot they are bad and they should just afk because that is how most people do it so it must be right. am i right?

Raiyza3/5/2019, 5:53:03 PM2 votes

I try to do the same thing as an adc main. Like if we fuck up and the enemy bot lane gets a double from us, I ping rift herald or top lane cuz I know they are gonna dragon.

But the issue is, will your team listen? The answer is 9/10 times: Fuck no.

Thanks for the tip!

Another thing to add, never do things without thinking about the bigger picture. For example, you might need some cs, and bot has a big juicy wave pushed up to the turret. Your team is setting up for Baron. Weigh the consequences; Baron, or 20 cs?

If the enemy has three bot, do you choose to do Baron, or keep farming?

Do you really need to follow those four other people to clear one super minion wave?

Is suiciding to take down enemy ADC worth it, or should you be killing that 14/2 Kha instead to prevent your own ADC from dying?

If the enemy jungler is top, and enemy mid laner is pushed up to their turret, do you really need a ward in your bot lane river bush?

And remember to never waste time typing to argue with a toxic player.

If you won 18 of your last 20, you just hit a nice lucky streak. It will run out. You will lose many many games soon and it will cast doubt on your philosophy. Just wait and see.

I'd also say champion choice is one of the biggest factors as to why people are hardstuck Silver/Bronze/Iron.

Why play champions that require near perfect positioning or mechanics when you can play someone like Garen or Sona? Sure, you might like them, but you're already setting yourself up to fail if you choose one of the hardest champions in the game to play only at an average level.

Also champion pool is a big one. Limit yourself to around 3-5 champions in your main role, with maybe 1-2 (or any broken meta champ that can't do THAT badly, you'll rarely get your secondary role anyway) in your off role. It's great to be a jack of all trades, but also make sure you're a master of one.

Also /mute all helps with not getting to emotional. the only downside is that you have to manually type it every game instead of just triggering an option to do that like mute all chat.

in this particular season i would be cautious i wouldnt take that as solid advice to yourself. this ranking season is actually the worst it has been in years where people get to elos they dont belong. all im saying is look more into yours games.

what a pile of garbage, i've been stuck in silver playing the same way for a lot of time, the matchmaking is simply stupid and its more of a question of luck.

how do you explain that there are days that i play the same way same champ and i go 14 wins and 0 loss, then suddenly the matchmaking puts me in team with flamers/toxic/throwers/unskilled/4 levels behind me, and then you start losing games on top of gameS?.

matchmaking is pure luck, completely broken.

Bro.. Im a supp main.. There's nothing you can do when your ADC doesnt play well. You're at their mercy. I think the real key to not lose too much LP is... if your team is feeding their ass off and its about to be a lost. Try to stay alive as much as possible. The worse your score the harder the LP hit. If you come out with 2-3 deaths when they got 8-10. Youll lose alot less from what I've seen.

But yea you're looking from a jgler's perspective. Its true, there is much the jg can do to turn the tide for the team. Stealing dragons and barons can usually give the team a chance.
