LeaverBuster system in the context of BugSplats
To get this stared I will preface my point/rant by saying I realize that this probably doesn't affect a lot of the player base; however, I still think it's a valid issue to bring up for a long term fix.
So I have recently experienced the Leaver Buster punishment of low priority queue of 20 minutes. Due to a series of unfortunate events (no pun intended) I've been disconnected or bug splatted from various games in a short enough time window to receive the punishment. Before anyone jumps the gun and tells me I deserved it or "sounds like system working as intended" I assure you that for this punishment I haven't intentionally left a game. I'm not saying I never have; there was a time years ago (been playing for a while) that I was staying a summer as my father's and I had to on multiple occasions leave a game because I didn't realize we had to go, but that doesn't apply to this punishment.
I am also not saying that I should be exempt from responsibility. Regardless of whether or not it was intentional or not I realize that me not being present in a game creates a negative experience for everyone else. Unforeseen internet issues, although really crappy and out of your control, still fall under your responsibility because you need to make sure your connection is healthy enough to play a game or if it does happen then it shouldn't happen enough for a punishment. I happened to experience multiple bug splats in quick succession as I tried to play League on a computer I had not played on before shortly after I was not present in a game (or two) from internet issues. All of these I will still take responsibility for even if one could argue that the bug splat one was 100% unforeseeable and in no way under my control.
The most recent bug splat issue which resulted in the 20 minute queue time punishment was on my main computer that I play one which I haven't received a bug splat on in years (aka: no way I could have seen that coming nor expect it). Upon re-opening the client it went into repair mode. The button to play was grayed out with "repairing" over it. I could not control this in any way and was unable to reconnect to the game because of what the client chose to do. Whether it was necessary or not, it was still something completely out of my control and I don't believe it was fair for me to be punished from it. I do realize that it wouldn't have resulted in a punishment had I not had the previous issues; I completely understand that, but I still don't believe that receiving a punishment for something the client does is ever fair.
When you receive a bug splat you have the option to send in the error report and write what you were doing when it happened. Within a game of League there is a difference between someone disconnecting and someone leaving a game. I will say "X has disconnected" or "X has left the game" showing a clear distinction between the two. If all of these are true why isn't there a way that the system incorporates these differences in how punishments are dolled out. Before anyone jumps the gun I realize that someone could just "alt f4" and have a disconnect instead of a leave so i'm not insinuating that disconnects be immune to punishment. I'm just saying there should be a system that isn't just a blanket and takes these types of issues into account. Possibly a more liberal threshold on punishments for disconnects over leaves as well as a delayed punishment due to a received bug splat error being sent in. If the immediate punishment system is still in place then at least some way to reverse the punishment if the case is analyzed and someone sees a clear bug splat issue. Obviously this isn't a clear fix to those who want to continue playing right then and there, but it's a start in the right direction. Just my thoughts on a system that seems to be overly flawed in an attempt to generalize punishments and avoid abuse.
TL;DR: Received Leaver Buster punishment from a bug splat error going into my client being repaired. Don't think the system should function as is; suggested possible solutions.
