Readjustment of the Ban System (Please read carefully)

Hello guys, the following is just my personal opinion, not something a Riot employee is obligated to implement or something. Rather than downvoting and therefore affecting others' opinions before they even click the thread, I would really appreciate if you stated your opinions below so I could read them as well!

So , for some reason the system right now is completely reversed from what it should be. These are the changes that I suggest:

  • Insulting, harassing, or offensive language directed at other players. -----> The simple solution: mute. Players should mute everyone they want, if they feel like to, and they can keep playing their game without being influenced. Toxic players could get a chat restriction penalty and if their insults are way too much and targeted, 7-days ban should be applied MAX.

  • Any kind of hate speech such as homophobia, sexism, racism, and ableism. -----> Same with above, but stricter control, reaching punishments such as Permanent ban in extreme repeated cases.

  • Intentionally ruining the game for other players with in game actions such as griefing, feeding, or purposely playing in a way to make it harder for the rest of the team. -----> Should be taken very seriously. For me, this kind of behaviour is the only one that could really affect the outcome of the game. You see you can't "mute" the actions of another player so that you can continue your game doing your part. So when it comes to these behaviours, the rest of the players have really zero options but to double their effort and still often resulting to defeat. So here comes Riot, banning players who act like this after only one warning. Then, a several days ban is applied and then the permanent suspension to be delivered.

  • Leaving or going AFK at any point during the match being played. -----> I think that part is quite covered as it is now. In addition, when a player disconnects from the game it's not always their fault, may be a bug, a net problem or a general blackout in his region. So the up-to-30-minues queue is enough to cover the ragequitters etc , while the first 5-minute-timer is a fair "Fix your net problems" warning ofr the rest.

  • Inappropriate Summoner Names. -----> Should remain as it is, the player gets a message asdvising him to change his name. If the same account keeps on selecting inapprotiate names though, a medium penalty of some sort should be applied.

  • Cheating/Boosted accounts ----> Cheaters can be detected by Riot after someone has reported them. As for boosted accounts, it is some times obvious when a player achieves really bad scores in a high elo in a row of ranked games, but some times it is not. In both cases, this should be treated equally with the 3rd point above, but this time the punishment should be applied instantly and be permanent.

Anyways, these are my thoughts in the Banning system. I'm not pretending to be someone, me myself received a permanent ban last year losing everything I had bought for this account which I had from the first year League was active. Yes, I was being a toxic but let me tell you something that we seem to forget these days: League of Legends is a game among all the others. Me and other people that flame as well (not all of them of course) are people with flaws as well. I really tried to keep myself from that behaviour but many times I can't control it. So what I'm trying to say is, I think is better to let off steam in a game after a tough day/week at work, school or life in general, than lashing out to people or situations in our everyday life. It's healthy and non-violent. Of course, I get that it is unfair for people that receive the insults ( even though half the cases I flamed are "flame-replies"), so I had an additional idea for them to not being forced to be harassed.

Toxicity Mark: Players that have been reported to using insulting, harassing or in any way offensive language, receive a mark above their Name that is visible both in Champion Selection lobby and in-game. Players who are sensitive to this kind of behaviour, or any other player, can click this mark to mute the marked summoner permanenlty for their account for any form of communication (chat, pings etc).

We see this suggestion a lot, usually from players who have been punished themselves. There are a few problems with it.

  • Muting first requires that a player either mute ALL players (and thus not see communication), or be exposed to the initial toxicity.
  • Muting as a solution to the problem puts the responsibility on those not breaking the rules.
  • Increasing chat restrictions or repeated temporary bans have been shown, by Riot's experiments, to not actually sufficiently reduce toxicity or encourage reform.
  • The community in general has, by and large, indicated that they don't WANT toxic players in the game, whether they're muted or not. This is doubly true as every player who is restricted is someone you can't rely on to pass needed information or discuss strategy.

In short, this sort of suggestion has many downsides, and the only upside is one for toxic players themselves -- more freedom to be toxic. I can't support a change that makes toxicity easier to recover from while also providing no benefit (and in fact several downsides) to non-toxic players.

Intentionally ruining the game for other players with in game actions such as griefing, feeding, or purposely playing in a way to make it harder for the rest of the team. ---- Should be taken very seriously. Then, a several days ban is applied and then the permanent suspension to be delivered.

This is precisely how this works. Once identified and confirmed (as Riot does not wish to punish innocent players) they apply a 14-day ban on the first offense, and a permanent ban on any subsequent offenses.

Cheating/Boosted accounts ---- Cheaters can be detected by Riot after someone has reported them. As for boosted accounts, it is some times obvious when a player achieves really bad scores in a high elo in a row of ranked games, but some times it is not. This is how the system works now. If the account is cheating, it is permanently banned when discovered. If the account is boosting by having someone else play on it, it is permanently banned when discovered. There is no penalty for playing with a friend who may be better than you, however, as that would go against League's idea that you CAN play with your friends.

I think is better to let off steam in a game after a tough day/week at work, school or life in general, than lashing out to people or situations in our everyday life.

It's not better to vent at people virtually, no. Just because the results of your harassment and insults aren't as relevant to your actual life doesn't mean that your top laner deserves to be the target of your frustration any more than your boss does.

1- No. If someone doesn't want to stop using the chat as a way to be an ass, they don't deserve to get a 7 day ban. They deserve to be told to GO AWAY if they refuse to stop at all. Muting is a bandaid solution, and sometimes doesn't happen until the damage is already done. Can't learn to be a good sport in a game? Don't play it, and stfu.

2-Again, NO. Hate speech IS. NOT. TOLERATED. ANYWHERE. Go to your school/local bar, call a black teacher/person the n-word, watch how fast you get escorted out and/or punched in the face. Can't be civil? We don't want you here. Period.

3-It IS taken seriously, and while certain things tend to get away here's something to think about: are people actually reporting it? For intent feeding, Riot most often has to do a manual review, so if no one is reporting it... Riot literally can NOT look at it. Not everyone feeds by buying tears and running it down mid, and sometimes something that looks like feeding isn't actually the person feeding, so Riot has to be sure that they're not. So when you see a constant pattern of the same exact thing from the same person, all I can think of is that the person isn't being reported.

6-Funny, the punishment is a PERMA BAN. It is permanent, meaning Riot doesn't want you to come back, however the people make more accounts because Riot will not block ip addresses, due to schools and game cafes. However, if people who where botting(which most boosted accounts are botted) got banned upon being caught, then the person who made the bots/scripts could change their bots/scripts to avoid detection.

Don't ask to change the system because YOU got perma banned for not following the summoners code. Yeah, this is a game, but this is a game with REAL. PEOPLE. on the other end of those characters in most cases. You don't know what problems they have, and they may be like you. Wanting to play a game to de-stress, not play a game to be treated like shit.

I read it carefully.

Conclusion on your opinion and ideas.

Simply No.

Let off steam on your own time somewhere else. You are here on agreed terms by using Riot's service. What you do here, regardless if you want to or not, you are here abiding by the same rules as us all. If you think it's healthy to punish other players for your attitude, then be prepared to get punished by them right back by using Riot's service against you.

This is why your overall idea is terrible and not only that but disturbing. Since you admit you can't control your attitude, then it's safe to say you don't belong here. At all. Hence your permaban you have gotten in the past. Not only the community didn't want your presence, but Riot doesn't want it either. I believe it'd be the best interest is finding a game more suitable for your attitude, because League of Legends isn't it. The only thing you'll find here is another ban.

Funny that some people downvoted but no one among them had something to say against my opinion or an actual suggestion . :/

Change nothing if keeping permaban tbh.
