Riot encourages negative player behavior

players are not punished for their actions, only if they are toxic or go afk

1: smite is available to anyone, which I get if people swap lanes, but I just had a midlaner who took smite and stole our junglers wolves at the start of the match, went on to feed the enemy mid laner, didnt ss at all, didnt follow his laner, and proceeded to intentionally do whatever he could to tilt us, will he be punished for my report? no he wont

2: people dont play for years, immediately able to play ranked on their first match back to the game, no punishment when they cause a loss

3: with the new shut down gold mechanic, people can get ahead of their laner with no problem after a shutdown and it encourages negative behavior towards the person who is now losing lane because of a mistake by somebody else on the team

4: whenever somebody trolls and feeds, it negatively impacts the team as the person they fed are able to solo carry a match

5: solo carrying has become such a huge part of the game that it isnt truly a team game anymore, if someone gets ahead they can just steamroll 1 v 3 or 4 or even 5

6: they dont respond to "intentional feeding" reports, reason being that in their words "there is no way to prove that the person was intentionally feeding, why is the option there then?

7: if someone has to be toxic and gets a toxic or salty response from the person they target, both players are punished

8: chat is toxic, people are toxic and competitive, (hope riot reads this one) dont punish toxic players, there is an option to mute players in game, if you want to punish players for being toxic then take the mute option out

9: no punishment for players who come into your lane to intentionally steal your farm, even as adc, if your support picks an off meta champ to support with and steals your farm you just have to live with it

10: I get that teams are badly effected by afk, but people who afk normally do so because of something in the match that is annoying them or upsetting them, Riot forces people to sit through a bad match for 30 minutes to an hour, and that will cause negative behavior because who in the hell wants to be irritated for that long, that is why people leave matches

the game is dying, I dare anyone who reads this to go make a smurf, 1-5 of the 10 players will be new to the game, to further support that statement, advertising for league has tremendously increased recently and they are having missions that require a player under level 15 called "recruit a friend" or some crap like that, but with how much this game is able to irritate people, even though some matches will feel really good, who in their right minds would recommend it to friends? unless you really plan on allowing friends to get annoyed and upset because the game is more of a "I will go push tower and kill them all" instead of "hey team, lets go take that tower and kill them all together, because I cant do it alone"

well done riot, you are making a brilliant single (multi) player game

  1. Smite being available to everyone isn't a valid argument for Riot encouraging negative behavior. If someone takes Smite and starts stealing camps & trolling, that is punishable.

...will he be punished for my report? no he wont

Do you have future-vision? Insider knowledge of how Riot's punishment system works? Omniscience?

If not, you can't reasonably say that someone won't get punished for your report.

  1. Hate to break it to you, but there's no rule stating that you have to have been active in so-and-so amount of time to play Ranked. All you need is an account of Level 30 and at least 12-20 Champions unlocked and available to play. Nobody's going to shake off all their rust in the loading screen, let alone in one match, and it's not like they're making you rusty enough that you can't climb.

  2. How does shutdown gold encourage negative behavior, exactly? You did a poor job of explaining it. As far as I know, the shutdown gold mechanic is supposed to encourage players to cooperate to try and take down priority targets to regain ground after the enemy scores a lead. I ain't seen anywhere Riot stated that they want people to be negative to the people losing lane.

  3. Okay...And? That's just a statement, not an argument that Riot encourages negative behavior. Everyone knows trolls create a lead for the opposing team, but how does that translate to Riot encouraging negative behavior?

  4. At this point I think you're just griping about Gameplay related things that get your pants in a bunch. If you want to talk about the state of the game being bad or gameplay things that irritate you, go to Gameplay. Player Behavior is for player behavior and related systems-talk.

  5. And do you have any evidence to prove Riot said that there's no way to prove someone was feeding or not? Because IIRC, they never said that they can't prove someone was intentionally feeding. They say that they hold off on punishing a player until it can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that they were feeding, but that doesn't translates into "we can't prove it so we just won't bother."

  6. Because those two players are both flaming. Nobody wants to deal with flamers - doesn't matter if it's one flamer or two flamers. Flame-wars just ruin the game for everyone within that chat channel, in a myriad of ways.

The flamers themselves focus more on flaming each other than playing the game, the people who have to deal with the flamers either have to deal with their disruptive bullshit or mute them, ruining team cohesion, and of course, people being pissed off at flamers increases the odds that someone will decide that they don't want to win anymore, since what's the point of winning if it means two assholes win, too?

  1. OR! Or...The mute button can stay, and people can just not be toxic. If toxic people don't want to be punished, then they can just not be toxic, because the rules still exist, regardless of the existence of a mute feature.

The mute feature is a short-term defense against toxicity, the report feature is a long-term defense against toxicity. Both are free to be used by whomever, and the toxic people can't say "boo" about it. They don't like punishment? They can follow the rules, or leave. Either works.

  1. Because it's not "your" farm. CS is a courtesy, not a right. When it comes to other lanes/jungle, there's the concept of taxing for making up the difference of an assist. And when it comes to Support - they can take CS every now and again, especially if you're not present in lane. As long as they aren't intentionally absolutely crippling you, like stealing every single minion in the wave while carrying Spellthief's Edge, it's only a minor issue.

  2. I don't get this last one. Are you defending the AFK's who deliberately put their own selfish ass before the team? And are you trying to say that people should be allowed to just up and leave matches once the first guy goes, because "who wants to play an irritating match?"

That's an asinine argument. If you sign up for a match of League, you should be ready to commit yourself to the whole match, regardless of if it's only 20 minutes to a full damn hour, no matter how rough or dissatisfying the match is for you. If you leave a match of League just because you're irritated for 20-30~ minutes, then you're gonna hate the real world. 'Cause it gets worse for longer outside of League.

Perhaps we should look at the stereotypical argument of toxic players, and propose to those who AFK because they get irritated in a match to just...Grow thicker skin. Tough it out, bite the bullet, take it on the chin.

'Cause there's more people than just you in a given match (unless you're doing customs with 5-9 bots or something), and those people likely didn't sign up for an uneven match because one player didn't get their way.

but with how much this game is able to irritate people, even though some matches will feel really good, who in their right minds would recommend it to friends?

People who really like League and feel like their friends could potentially get past the toxic exterior? I personally err on keeping my friends away from League, primarily because I think the playerbase in general would frustrate the fuck out of them. But, in the same turn, I also make mention that the game itself is great - just the people who are bad.

So far, only one of my three friends ignored my warnings and joined. They haven't suffered too much trouble yet, but they haven't gone without dealing with toxic trash, either.
