Please help me stop getting chat restrictions

TB Wolf·5/24/2018, 4:08:03 PM·2 votes·4,268 views

I thought that I wasn't a toxic player, but suddenly I find myself getting chat restrictions back to back when I previously hadn't gotten one in a long time.

I try not to flame people, but I can get a bit defensive, especially when other people start up the toxicity or have a terrible attitude.

I don't know if the system itself is flagging some of my words because I swear, or if getting reported in a few games can just get you a chat restriction, but I genuinely want to know what to avoid in the future. Would appreciate feedback on what to avoid in my chat restriction logs.

game 1: https://pastebin.com/gSY6pz5S

Had an argument here with a jungler who started flaming our top for being down in cs and dying in lane a few times. The jungler proceeded to soft int by just staying in jungle/running into their team while everyone else was grouping around objectives. He clearly wasn't a bad player, but he gave up the instant he saw our top lose lane. Am I supposed to just not type to these players? Does it deserve a chat restriction to tell off literal toxic game throwers? In the future, am I supposed to just mute them and ignore everything they do and just report them at the end?

game 2: https://pastebin.com/RJSbJB1P

I guess I can understand this one a little more because of offhandedly calling our yasuo a bad mid player, but it wasn't really the point of what I was saying. I'll accept that I shouldn't call people bad(which happens CONSTANTLY in League, and people don't seem to get chat restricted over it...), but the defeatist attitude was due to Kled afking at base for about 6-7 minutes early in the game because of our mid player doing badly, while he was also doing badly.

I'm not a perfectly honorable player, but I really don't consider myself toxic-- I'd like to know what to avoid in the future. Most of my games have no issue at all, even when someone is toxic-- it's easy to just mute somebody. My problem comes when toxicity goes beyond just the chat box, and people start afking/throwing, that's when I lose my composure. How do I deal with these situations in ways that won't get me chat restricted? Are you not allowed to say anything to these game ruining trolls?

Before even reading your chat, keep in mind that "having an argument" in game is already doing it wrong, and will almost never end well for anyone concerned. If you're getting into it with one other person, the other 3 people on your team now get to mute both of you or else they have to deal with your spam continually filling the chat.

Game 1:

You were really good up until here, it looked like you were trying to de-escalate.

TB Wolf: so now ur inting TB Wolf: that is no excuse to int

Don't accuse other people of inting. Report them after the game if you think they are, but keep the accusations to yourself.

TB Wolf: you are the reason you are in this rank TB Wolf: and you are the reason you will NEVER LEAVE TB Wolf: in your ENTIRE LIFE TB Wolf: f off. TB Wolf: I can't stand toxic trolls who int after flaming their team

Ask yourself: Is this helping your team win? If the answer is no, don't type it. The next time you see someone acting like this, mute 'em.

Postgame: TB Wolf: I don't care if you ever fix it, but your attitude IS losing you games. TB Wolf: please report udyr TB Wolf: toxic af

Demanding reports is considered harassment since one report carries the same weight as nine. If you want to report, do it. Don't badger your team into doing it, it has no effect.

And there's that namecalling again.

It's happening because someone is reporting you, and if someone is reporting you in a large enough number of games, that means that you are actually being toxic. There are a few things you can do to help you control yourself.

  1. Disable all chat. If enemies typing in all chat tilts you, disable it entirely.

  2. Mute your opponents' emotes at the start of the game. Emotes are another common tilter.

  3. Type /mute all at the start of the game, which will mute all chat, but leave pings available to you.

  4. Use pings and no more than 2 letters per message to communicate. It's perfectly alright to say things like "gj," but don't type out too much, both as a general rule, because reading long messages takes your teammate's eyes away from the game, and because longer messages may tilt you or your teammates and take longer to type. Pings are instant and their meaning understood automatically, and in Smite, which has a FAR better Ping system than League, I never see people typing in chat.

the easiest and hardest way is to stop caring about league

LoL "mute all".

It's sad that this is what it comes to. Good luck to you sir, I hope it works out. I'm going to keep being "toxic" and telling my 0/8 bot lane at lvl 4 that they don't belong in ranked play. Because, they don't.

Players that don't contest objectives, that don't buy pinks, that don't build or play defensively in a lost lane are now free to continually ruin games. But say anything to them at all and prepare for the "toxic" chants.

Oh well, maybe Riot will figure out why Fortnite is so popular. Imagine getting to play a game that isn't decided by the coinflip of who gets the 0/4 mundo building daggers into Tryn.

Type /mute all At the beginning of the game for a bit. Or mute on offence, if they offend you mute them but for the love of God you don't need to tell them

One thing you should try to do when you get defensive or frustrated... is wrap up all your sentiment in one obviously sarcastic statement. Say what you think is wrong, but say it vaguely and then leave it at that. I think a lot of punishments get dealt for keeping an argument going. If you just say one mean thing, you should be fine. When they respond, it's important not to keep the argument going. But they'll know exactly how you feel about them. You don't need to explain any further. THEY KNOW. It's not like because they respond, suddenly they think they changed your mind. That never happens in league lol... no one convinces anyone of anything. So just let them know how you feel, and drop it. It will linger in them, if that's what you're going for. You don't need to keep fighting with em.

Just use /mute all. There is no point in talking with spastic yasuo or janna mains and others. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

do what I do, mute all soon as you enter a game and just use pings works wonders

Mute all every game. Every line you type increases your chance of penalty. You can also google how to disable your enter key.

Also, decrease the size of your chat window. Its only necessary for timing summoner spells

Well, just stop talking, you can say something like "gj team we got this !" when an ally killed someone, but really everything else you're saying isn't helping anything, don't expect people to listen, never.

Use pings !
