I try very hard not to blame others, flame in chat, or get mad, but sometimes I can't really help myself. I'd like to know if any of you guys have suggestions for me on how to be a less toxic player, or better yet how to not get mad at League of Legends.
I've only gotten punished once so far, but I'd like to keep myself from getting punished in the future.
Try to define for yourself the exact circumstances that trigger the behavior. In the heat of the moment it might feel like it "just happens" but looking back at a few situations a pattern might emerge. Do you get angry at your teammates in situations that you yourself are losing lane? Do you react very negatively when someone criticizes your play style? Try to identify these situations and make concrete plans for how to react next time you find yourself in try them. e.g. "I will mute a player that bms me right away and not respond." - "I will never tell my jungler that he should gank my lane more, even if I feel like I'm in the right to tell him".
This is (very) basic emotional regulation training. There are good self help books written by credible psychologists on the subject.

I haven't got punished for chat yet in LOL so i will give what i think is right (BTW i might be wrong so if u want u can ignore me, also plz forgive me if i sound a bit unhumble)
Ignore unimportant things in chat This is important as there will probs be somebody flaming, just ignore dont mute. If they ask 4 help then help cept 4 that if they annoy u just ignore them
Do not i repeat do not flame or be toxic to somebody. As u grow in lvls the people flame less but will flame harder if necessary Fighting back will just waste time
If u are protecting somebody (as u should if they are getting flamed at) say one thing like 'stop flaming on this guy' or something. Dont keep on talking, if there is a chance remember to help the guy in trouble
Finally- dont tell enemies and team to report somebody. I understand that under certain circumstances u should, like if they are swearing and flaming, racist etc. But save 4 end of game or they will (believe me i know) feed. Save till somebody will lose , u never know the person might change their attitude in 10mins
