What is the point of the maturity filter?

If you are under 18 years old and you can not handle profanity you NEED to use the mature filter. It is unfair that adult gamers have to worry about being banned or restricted for our language when Riot has given every player multiple tools to meet everyones needs. Don't like the f word? use a maturity filter. Is someone talking to much on a team? Mute that player. Do you not want to listen to anyone? turn chat off. I shouldnt get a 25 game chat restriction because i say the word damn when Riot even uses the word in its patch notes.

I played this game for the years of 2012 - 2015 and while the game did have some issues then, it was atleast clear about what you can and cant do. nowadays anyone can report you just for feeling like it and that player will get a restriction or a ban.

Also, if a riot member reads this post, please share with me what i did to deserve a 25 match chat restriction because as of now you have given me no reason for it and i am extremely tilted.

To answer your title, the chat filter is for those who simply don't wish to see curse words like damn or fuck. However, the existence of the chat filter, and for that matter the mute button, is not an excuse to start harassing others without consequence. If someone mutes you because you're flaming and insulting them, then the damage is already done.

The mute button is there so others don't have to put up with your chat for the remainder of the game. The report button is there so that future players won't have to put up with your chat in the first place.

You don't get punished simply for cursing. However, if you start cursing at other players and use it as a means to harass/insult them, that's when it becomes unacceptable, though it's not so much the cursing as much as it is the harassment that triggers the punishment.

While yes players can report you for just about anything, just because they report you does not mean you will automatically be punished. Reports alone only trigger a review of the game, and depending on your behavior for that game, the system will determine whether or not a punishment is suitable.

Now if you want an opinion on your chat logs, you can post them here if you want a community review of what may have triggered the punishment. If you want to talk to Riot directly, though, it's best to submit a ticket to Player Support asking for a review of your case. Though sometimes a Rioter may see and respond to your post here, it's quite rare and never guaranteed.

Don't use your big boy words as weapons against other people and we'll all be superchill. Most people won't report you for just cursing. If you chose to use it to insult someone, then....well. I guess you kinda deserve it. Control yourself or Riot will control you for you I guess?

I understand that other players in that game may have been harassing you throughout the game as well, but this is not about their behavior, it's about yours. Now, I'm not going to excuse their behavior and say it's acceptable, because it's not. However, their poor behavior does not excuse your own. While they may have been harassing you, you still broke the rules with your own harassment.

As far as their behavior is concerned and why it's possible they weren't punished, the system doesn't punish every single instance of negative behavior instantly. Aside from extreme behavior like hate speech/encouraging self-harm, the system generally looks for a pattern of negative behavior before a punishment is issued. It's quite likely that these other players haven't quite yet shown much of a pattern of this type of behavior, thus avoiding punishment this time around. You, on the other hand, have already gotten a chat restriction, which means that you have shown somewhat of a pattern of this type of behavior, and since your last punishment really wasn't too long ago, the system sees that you are still continuing this pattern of behavior, thus issuing the next punishment.

Well if you want to know why you received the chat restriction, my first piece of advice is to post the chat logs you were given.

You constantly harassed Nasus.

NEWS FLASH - you don't get restricted/banned for cuss words. You get banned for harassment, which is what you did.

It's so unfair that adults, who are supposed to be showing children the example of how to behave, get in trouble when they can't control themselves as well as the children.

funny thing is you are absolutely garbage at the game and all those things you are blaming your loss on are false. its not impossible to beat nasus your just bad simple and need something to blame.

Curse words don't get you punished. If that were true, I would've been perma banned long ago. I probably say "Fuck me" at least three time per game. It's directing the words at others that got you punished.
