Intentional Feeding Epidemic?

When I look across these boards, especially the Player Behavior board, I get the sense that there is some sort of Intentional Feeding epidemic going on. But when I look back across my own experience, I might have had one intentional feeder in the last 50+ games. I've had a lot of players who played poorly of course, but very few that I got the sense were trying to lose the game.

  1. Do you think this is an issue of perception - some people try to label anyone who doesn't do well as an intentional feeder?

  2. Do you think the people who are experiencing this epidemic of feeders are causing the problem, such as by being so toxic as to make teammates who otherwise wouldn't want to lose, want to lose?

You've probably hit the nail on the head with this.

Also important to note is that the playerbase is huge, and your average player will not usually turn to the boards until they have something to complain about. So you will see a disproportionate amount of complaints here, accurate or not. It's definitely not widespread or an actual epidemic, more an issue of sample size and what you see here.

It may be true that a large % of the complaints on the player behavior boards are related to int-feeding, but that is as far as it can be taken. It is only with respect to the total number of posts on the player behavior boards, rather than with respect to the total number of games played or players in the playerbase.

I think it's mostly the first reason you give. Many players simply can't accept they were part of the reason for that loss, so label anyone with a negative aggie an intentional feeder to make themselves feel better.

It probably seems that way since people only tend to come to the boards when there's something to complain about, though there are times when this is genuine and not just baseless complaining.

You do bring up an interesting point about how it COULD seem that way due to the nature of people playing the blame game - I definitely see it, though I couldn't say in which direction this issue primarily lies as both have occurred at some point. I don't have the data to really make a judgement on it, but the idea is great for discussion.

I've run into quite a few who run it down mid, but the thing is that that particular behavior is actually super easy for Riot to catch, and it will catch you a ban faster than anything. You may not have run into many simply either by luck, or because they're getting banned.

No its just a one-dimensional perspective. Those who don't have intentional feeder don't even bother to make a post on the boards. So you only see the complains but don't meassure them against the ammount of players playing games without intentional feeders. In my games there are very little intentional feeders, maybe 1 in a 500. (And intentional feed is of course not that toplaner who went 0/6 because he got camped, i'm only counting those who run down mid buying 6 times boots)

  1. no, there are many posts with screenshots of a guys op.gg who has inted 15+ games in a row. Riot doesn't ban these people for some unknown reason, yet they will ban someone over 2 games of toxicity.

  2. There is no excuse for inting or trolling, Even if someone is being toxic to them. One is just words, the other is an action, and actions are 100x more severe than just words

Nothing will be done about it unless they say naughty words.

While I wouldn't call it an "epidemic", there is no question that intentional feeding has occurred with greater frequency this season as opposed to Seasons 1 and 2. Looking at my match history and browsing back about 50 games I can see 4 where someone CLEARLY intentionally fed and another 2 that are cases where someone got pissed and just ran into the enemy team but only did it once. So even at the lower estimate that's still 8% of the 50 game sample I've taken. That's pretty insane if you think about it.

Sure, over the course of 500 games it's unlike that such a high percentage would continue, but I do know that intentional feeding was one of those things I used to only see a couple of times in an entire season in 2011-2013. Now, it's a couple of times per month, maybe more.

ppl def label bad games as int. i mean it clear when someone is int'ing and just bad.

I haven't seen a single intentional feeder in over a thousand hours of gameplay. Low ELOs are nice.
