So.. what happens to all the $$ i spent?

Near Epicness·3/19/2018, 5:06:04 AM·2 votes·1,836 views

Just curious, if my account gets banned I should get all the money I've spent on this game back right? over 50% of banns are questionable for sure and usually by premades who want to ruin someones league life. Taking money from people who have spent lots of time and effort (as well as $) in this game just seems... morally wrong? Almost like theft honestly. Just curious to everyone thoughts and why this is actually allowed. If you pay for a good, its your property, meaning you should either get to keep it, or get a refund. It seems lately more and more people are getting there accounts banned (some for good reason but others for no reason). So riot, how do you deal with the people who get honors every game but still get banned? (weather its from false reporting which is a serious issue right now, or from the client bugs themselves like bug splatting and afking from games)

Your products from money spent is not given to you, but your account. If that account get's banned, your rental on those purchases are obviously void. You "bought" them for as long as they're available to you on that account.

over 50% of banns are questionable for sure

this is just plain wrong, and I don't know how you believe that unless you're an extremely gullible person and went over to "Player Behavior" which, even as a place where all the wrongfully banned players would go, still doesn't have that 50% fault rate you claim

  • Most bans are warrented
  • False reporting isn't a serious issue right now
  • The purchases belong to your account (which is owned by Riot), not you
  • You can get unbanned pretty easily if you have proof of bugsplat/client issues
  • Your past behavior (or honors) do not and should not give you pass to be toxic

ez pz explanation right there

That account was never your's, to begin with. Before you downloaded the game you agreed to this 2. Account Termination:

2.2. What happens if my account is terminated? (No LoL for you.)

  • If your account is terminated, you’ll no longer have access to it, including any of the associated data or content (e.g., champions, skins, Riot Points, etc.). You’ll not be entitled to any refunds and we’ll have no liability to you. We also reserve the right to terminate any other accounts you may have created, as well as your access to any other Riot Services (also without any refunds or liability to you).

You should read the ToU before you download a game. So you know what you're getting into and know the rules of the game.

Your honor is irrelevant and NO ONE is invulnerable to the system.

Does not matter how much honor you get, it's all about how many times you tried to purposely ruin someone's game or neglect the fact that words do have consequences.

...if my account gets banned I should get all the money I've spent on this game back right?

Nope. You gave your money to Riot Games in a non-refundable transaction - it says so on the backs of Pre-Paid Riot Point cards, and it says so in the in-Client shop when you go to purchase Riot Points. Once you make the trade of your local currency (in this case, USD) for Riot Points, the transaction is done, and the USD you spent belongs to Riot. There is no legal way to get that money back.

Almost like theft honestly.

Theft implies they took the money from you without your consent. You gave them your money, ergo, it's not theft.

If you pay for a good, its your property, meaning you should either get to keep it, or get a refund.

As mentioned earlier, the transaction is non-refundable, but to address the "it's your property" thing, here's a snippet from the Terms of Use:

3.2. Can I do stuff with Riot’s intellectual property? (We reserve all the rights to our IP, but do allow for some personal, non-commercial uses like fan art.) We (and our licensors) own and reserve all rights and title in and to the Riot Services, and all data and content included therein, including, user accounts, computer code, titles, objects, artifacts, characters, character names, chat logs, Game recordings and broadcasts, locations, location names, stories, dialog, catch phrases, artwork, graphics, structural or landscape designs, animations, sounds, musical compositions and recordings, Riot Points (defined below), Blue Essence (defined below), Hextech Items (defined below), Virtual Goods (defined below), audio-visual effects, character likenesses, methods of operation and gameplay (collectively, “Game Content”).

According to the League of Legends Terms of Use, Section 3, Article 2, Riot has sole ownership of any and all properties in their game, including the Summoner Name you take out onto the fields of battle, the Champions they created, and the skins you bought to wear on them.

In other words, it's not your property, and you didn't buy the item itself. You bought a revocable license to use that item for as long as Riot allows.

...weather(sic) its from false reporting which is a serious issue right now...

False reports won't result in a punishment. It isn't an issue.

"over 50% of banns are questionable for sure"

Where'd you get this number from? Also you're not buying property, you're paying for a timed service that will eventually end.

Your money unlocks content on your account. A permanent ban doesn't delete your account, you simply lose the agreed upon rights to accessing it. It's all still there on that account, you can simply no longer use it.

If people are allowed to get their money back after being permaban, it means that there's literally no harm at all from being reported for negative activity. See how stupid this sounds?

El oh el, someone didn't read their TOU. Here you go buddy.

Read that and all your questions are answered.

When you get permabanned, it should count for your forum account too. Whiners

DID YOU KNOW THAT OVER 95% OF STATISTICS ARE WRONG?! the remaining 5% are actually created by riot in a coalition with the Illuminati and the crab people, that's the real reason people like you get banned of course, not because you're toxic scum bags, nope its because they pulled your name out of the fabled BOOT OF TRUTH which allows them to plot the necessary path to attain godhood. In reality the only way to thwart riot is to realize that reality is a dream, and like all dreams, it can end through the consumption of liver and onions, which you should consume to a large degree so i don't have to.

i challenge all of you to repost this post on every one of the really obviously trolley bad ban appeals (not on good ones, if such things exist) that get posted on this board, god speed my friends, god speed

Just gonna throw this out there: If getting banned triggered a full refund, I'd flame my ass off without hesitation.

When Dawngate got cancelled and closed in open beta, they refunded everyone for whatever they had spent. Just saying.

DeloricVI3/19/2018, 5:21:51 AM1 votes

Uh, Riot pocketed the money because you broke the rules. When you accepted that ToS, you agreed to this. Not Riot's fault you didn't read it.

maybe you should try not getting banned?

Kaioko3/21/2018, 9:10:06 PM1 votes

There's three main issues with issuing a full refund on an account after it's banned:

1.) You don't own anything like you agree in the ToS so there's nothing to refund in the first place

2.) You broke the rules. A ban is a punishment, not a way to get money back

3.) You most likely used those champions/skins/etc... Why on earth would you get a full refund when you got the enjoyment of using them which is what your purchase was intended to give you
